COVID-19 발생 전후 아파트 발코니에 대한 사용자 인식과 이용실태 변화

        자오천천(Chen-Chen Zhao),한정원(Jeong-Won Han) 한국주거학회 2023 한국주거학회 논문집 Vol.34 No.6

The apartment balcony is the only space that connects the inside and outside of the house, but it is often used to increase the usable area in Korean apartments. The purpose of this study is to identify changes in residents’ perception and use of balcony space before and after the outbreak of COVID-19 targeting apartment residents. To this end, big data analysis using social network data and a survey of apartment residents were conducted. The results are as follows. 1) When compared to before COVID-19, many words related to nature and new activities were being searched after the outbreak. 2) In terms of the balcony functions before and after COVID-19, storage and utility functions, which were typical roles of balconies, are relatively reduced after COVID-19. On the other side, the ratio of natural contact functions, indoor environment control functions, and living space functions increased. 3) A comparative analysis on the frequency of balcony use before and after the COVID-19 showed increases in the frequency of use for all types of balconies, and the statistical significance of these changes was confirmed. Since the demands for the original function of balconies are increasing after COVID-19, it is necessary to consider the various activities and contact with nature in designing apartment balconies.

        자오천천(Zhao, Chen-Chen),한정원(Han, Jeong-Won) 한국실내디자인학회 2024 한국실내디자인학회 학술대회논문집 Vol.26 No.2

The apartment balcony serves as the only buffer space connecting the interior and exterior of the building, making it an important element that can enhance the quality of living. This study aims to understand the perceptions and demands of residents regarding open balconies in multi-family housing, which are becoming increasingly necessary. To achieve this, the definition of open balconies and the changes in related regulations were examined through a literature review and surveys among apartment residents were conducted to identify their awareness, preferences, and needs concerning open balconies. The results of this study are as follows: Most residents displayed a positive attitude toward the installation of open balconies and preferred them to be located in the living room or between the living room and the bedroom. When installing open balconies, residents favored a large size that could accommodate about 4-6 people for the living room balcony and a relatively smaller size that could accommodate about 2-4 people for the bedroom and kitchen balconies. The majority preferred linear-shaped balconies. To improve the residential environment of apartments, which have become a representative housing type in Korea, it is necessary to actively consider the installation of open balconies that reflect the demands and preferences of apartment residents.
