In electrostatic separation process for recycling of Automobile Shredder Residue (ASR), its separation efficiency is decreased by the influence of conductive matters attached onto the fine glass particles. Hence induction electrostatic separation testwork has been carried out using non-magnetic products obtained through pre-treatment (such as sieving, washing, pyrolysis and oxidation) to remove impurities. From test result, the sieving and water washing are superior to pyrolysis and oxidation for removing the conductive matters. In the electrostatic separation for recovering non-ferrous, a grade of 78 % and recovery of 82 % could be successfully achieved under conditions of 30 kV electrode potential, 45 % relative humidity and 8 cm splitter position.
