The temperature-programmed desorption of carbon dioxide on nickel supported on γ-Al₂O₃ was investigated under vacuum condition. Carbon dioxide adsorbed on the γ-Al₂O₃ showed two desorption peaks which were overlapped each other although the higher temperature peak was almost negligible in intensity. While a desorption peak whose temperature was independent of exposure was observed for the 10 wt% Ni/ γ-Al₂O₃ prepared by impregnation method(D10), two overlapped peaks were observed for the 10 wt% Ni/ γ-Al₂O₃ prepared by liquid phase oxidation method(L10). Carbon dioxide was adsorbed on the L10 catalyst to much larger extent than on the D10, and desorption behavior of carbon dioxide adsorbed on the D10 catalyst was more similiar to that of pure γ-A1₂O₃ rather than to that of the L10 catalyst. Preadsorption of carbon monoxide followed by adsorption of carbon dioxide on the L10 catalyst affected the desorption of carbon dioxide only when the exposure of carbon monoxide was large. So it was suggested that adsorption behavior of carbon dioxide was subject to the extent of interaction between nickel and γ-Al₂O₃.
