The government have been tightening EM regulation gradually but the effect is not good because of rapid increase of vehicles. And medium & heavy duty diesel vehicles, even though the number is small, exhaust very large pollutants(about over 50%). Especially it is more severe about old trucks and buses. Accordingly, CNG vehicle and the retrofit of diesel to CNG must be an alternative in order to protect the atmospheric environment and improve the air quality in the metropolitan area. The main object of this study is to secure the retrofit technology of diesel to CNG vehicle and the management system of CNG engine. we passed the government emission certification test. In addition to this, the mass production for retrofit is also studied. Results of emission and durability test for certification are as follows; there was no problem during 30,000㎞ vehicle durability test and good emission levels satisfying the regulation.

Natural gas is an attractive fuel in view of environmental benefits, but depending upon regional groups, its components and properties are varied. Therefore, a study on the combustion characteristics of natural gas engines with a variety of components has been demanded for the application of gas engines.<br/> This study includes the test results, using a modified gasoline engine, in terms of spark timing, intake manifold pressure, air-fuel ratio of natural gas. The engine tests were conducted in MBT condition allowing the determination of IMEP and cycle variation.<br/> In an effect to facilitate various experimental processes, a conventional 4-stroke PFKPort Fuel Injection) engine was modified to an experimental single cylinder engine.<br/>

Natural gas is an attractive fuel in view of environmental benefits due to its low carbon-to-hydrogen ratio. However, its compositions and properties are varied depending upon production regional groups. Therefore, study on the combustion characteristics of natural gas engines with a variety of compositions has been demanded for the efficient application of gas engines.<br/> This study aims to investigate the effects of gas composition on engine combustion characteristics. Accordingly it was determined that, by controlling an engine with fixed fuel nozzle area, power and heat release were subject to Wobber Index. And at fixed excess air ratios, power and heat release were subject to low heating value of unit mixture. In addition, in case of constant nozzle, combustion duration was to found to be inversely proportional to CP. and the condition of fixed excess air ratios showed no change in combustion duration, regardless of CP.<br/>

The combustion characteristics of metal fiber burner fueled natural gas with tail gas produced from reforming process were analyzed on the point of flame stability and excess air conditions. Also, it was analyzed the effect of energy efficiency improvement due to decrease the fuel input in reforming system by using residue gases. As a results, it was confirmed that tail gas including hydrogen, CO and CO2 could be directly injected without any change of air control system in natural gas burner and also energy efficiency was increased up to 30% maintained stable combustion.
