In the repeated accelerating and braking process during vehicle operation, the exhaust manifold is subject to the severe thermal stresses due to the cycle of high temperature and cooling. Since the output of our gasoline engine has been enhanced from 3,200cc to 3,600cc, its exhaust gas temperature is expected to rise from 930℃ to 950℃. So, we are planning to develop a heat-resisting steel for the manifold material, which can bear the temperature of exhaust gas over 950℃, at the same cost and weight. We reduced the contents of carbon and increased those of silicone and added up a little contents of tungsten in our current alloy 26%Cr-14%Ni-2%Nb and thereby, alloy designed 6 types. As a result of testing the mechanical properties, thermal deformation and thermal fatigue, the added 10%Ni-2%W(Alloy 4) material and the added 10%Ni-2%W-1.7%Mn(Alloy 5) were more excellent than our current material.

The plastic region tightening bolt is usually used for the crank shaft main bearing cap bolt of the diesel engine. If the plastic region tightening bolt is repeatedly reused, it would be subject to the accumulated permanent strain and lowering the bolt axial force only to cause some serious problems. The crank shaft main bearing cap bolt as much as 20 times for a testing with the torque-tension tester. As a result, the max. axial force was reached when the bolt was 10 times, but in consideration of about 5% safety rate of the axial force as well as the ordinary 0.2-0.5% permanent strain, it was deemed desirable to reuse the bolt only 3 times.
