The purpose of the study was to validate the components of practical collaborative competencies by analyzing the perceptions of corporate personnel on practical collaborative competencies. The study reviewed the theories of collaborative intelligence, collective intelligence, cooperative learning, and learning communities. Based on the results of the literature review, the study derived seven categories of participative motivation for group activities, ability to share thinking and consciousness, motivation to share experiences, ability to control emotion, ability to promote interaction, creativity, and collaborative performance as the core competencies. To validate the elements, survey was conducted for 186 corporate personnels. The results showed that the personnels perceived the following elements as important collaborative competencies: participative motivation for group activities, motivation to form participatory atmosphere, ability to manage conflict effectively, ability to form relationships, ability to form positive team atmosphere.
국군간호사관학교 생도의 개인보호구에 대한 지식, 인식 및 태도

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the knowledge, perception, and attitude on personal protective equipment (PPE) among Korea Armed Forces Nursing Academy (KAFNA) cadets. Methods: This cross-sectional descriptive study included 291 cadets attending at KAFNA. Data were collected by structured questionnaires and were analyzed through descriptive statistics, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation coefficient. Results: The score of knowledge on PPE was 14.49±1.83 points out of 20 points. Perception on PPE was 3.55±0.45 points, and attitude on PPE was 3.39±0.59 points out of 5 points, respectively. There was no correlation between knowledge and perception, despite a strong positive correlation among knowledge, perception, and attitude. Upper-grade cadets and cadets who have experience in PPE training showed higher knowledge and attitude on PPE. Conclusion: Results of this study provided as basic data for the education related to the use of PPE for KAFNA cadets. It will also be necessary to provide the repetitive education and practice for the curriculum to master PPE.
주외막단백 유전자 분석을 이용한 Brucella abortus의 동정

Background: As the incidence of bovine brucellosis increases in Korea, the incidence of human brucellosis is also increasing since 2002. However, it is difficult to identify Brucella species by using the conventional methods. Methods: Three strains of gram-negative coccobacilli were isolated from blood specimens of three patients with prolonged fever, which were not identified by using the conventional methods. After extracting total DNA from these isolates, PCR amplification of 16S rRNA and omp2 genes was performed. These sequences secured by PCR assay were compared with known sequences by using GenBank BLAST. Results: DNA sequences were obtained from 3 isolates by using PCR amplification of 16S rRNA. These sequences had more than 99.9% similarities with Brucella species by using GenBank BLAST. In the second place, after comparing DNA sequences secured by PCR amplification of omp2a and omp2b by using GenBank BLAST, these isolates were confirmed as B. abortus. Conclusions: DNA sequence analysis is a rapid and accurate method for identification of uncommon microorganisms, such as Brucella species.(Korean J Med 71:10-16, 2006)

This paper describes a fatal case of pneumonia in a 14-day-old dog caused by extraintestinal pathogenic Escherichia coli (ExPEC). The necropsy showed that almost all of left lobes of the lungs had dark-red consolidation. A histopathology examination revealed moderate acute fibrino-hemorrhagic necrotizing pneumonia with intralesional bacterial colonies. Non-suppurative epicarditis, congestion in the liver, and necrosis in the white pulp of the spleen also were found. E. coli with cytotoxic necrotizing factor 1 and α-hemolysin was isolated from the lung. This case was confirmed to have fatal pneumonia caused by ExPEC that led to a systemic infection.
