The design methodology and design evaluation of automotive oil pan dies for laminate sheet metal are discussed in this paper, The forming processes and design<br/> characteristics of the dies for laminate sheet matal based on the oil pan are first introduced, Thereafter, the design of the tools is seen with the explanation of auto-design program, which is developed for generating the drawings of die structures associated with 7 forming operation steps.<br/> Next. the design analysis of the tools for pursuing optimal designs. namely. forming analysis and structural analysis, are demonstrated. Sectional forming approach is employed for checking the formability. and elastic 3-dimensional FEM is used for assuring the strength. The design evaluation revealed the uniform stretching over the region and the safe strength of structure.<br/>

For the optimal design of starnping dies, formabilities during the forming processes and strengths against the forming loads are evaluated by sectional forming analysis program, SH-FORM2, and 3-D structureal analvsis system, IDEAS, In the formability analysis of hood inner panel dies, SH-FORM2 was able to predict the stretch and draw amounts and good agreement between measured and computed thickness strains was obtained. In the structural analysis, IDEAS revealed that stamping dies were designed to have enough stiffness inthe strength, though some parts of upper die, to which impact load is transmitted from the distance block of blank holder, need to be reinforced by the ribs.

This study presents the mold design parameters and optimum process conditions for the injection molding of automotive rear bumper by CAE. Firstly, the process is analyzed by using traditional mold design criteria in the first mold desigh and the conditions are modified by the results of analysis. Secondly, the process are analyzed by using modified conditions. The results are compared with those of the lst run and applied to the real process. It is expected that the imformation can be used in the mold design to get good product and reduce mold design process.
