The existing transition theory, especially the multi-level perspective (MLP) based on the sociotechnological system, needs theoretical corrections due to the rigid and transcendental hierarchy of key concepts, the limitations of the analysis of actors, and the lack of interest and understanding on the spatial dynamics. In this context, this study adds to the idea of assemblage leading the relational and material turn of theory. Assemblage has a co-functioning as a multiplicity in which many disparate elements make a coincidental relationality but are not fully stabilized. Assemblage thinking provides an understanding of topological perspectives and the exteriority of relations. And assemblages are organized by not only deterritorialization but also (re)territorialization. These characteristics of assemblage thinking overcome the limitations of MLP at the empirical studies of the energy transition, and also help to recognize and explain undefined actors, energy transition processes that are difficult to apply to transcendental hierarchies, and the geographical differences that are constantly reconstructed.
