In this study, three dimensional finite element model of a diesel engine cylinder head was made to accomplish heat transfer analysis and also thermal stress and deformation analysis. Heat release analysis and Nusselt-Reynolds relations were applied to determine the convective boundary conditions which is required for heat transfer analysis to calculate temperature distribution. Thermal stress distribution was also investigated in via of heat transfer analysis results. Steady state temperatures and heat fluxes were measured using K-type thermocouples and compared with numerical results to give a guarantee for the plausibility of numerical analyses.<br/>

The effect of coolant flow pattern in the engine block is very important for the engine heat transfer. In this study, 3-D model of engine block coolant passage is established to investigate the effects of various inlet positions and velocities. And the effect of grid density is also investigated. BFC(Body Fitted Coordinate) and RNG k- g model are applied to represent the complex geometry of coolant passage and to solve the turbulent flow field. 루우버휜형 열교환기의 유동구조 및 압력강하 특성에 관한 연구

Experimental studies were performed to determine the characteristics of flow structure and pressure drop in 15 : 1 scale models of multi-louvered fin heat exchanger in a wide range of variables($L_P/F_P=0.5{\sim}1.23$, ${\theta}=27^{\circ}{\sim}37^{\circ}$, $Re_{LP}=50{\sim}2000$). Flow structure inside the louvered fin was analyzed by smoketube method and new correlations on flow efficiency and drag coefficient were suggested. The new definition for flow efficiency, which modifies the existing flow efficiency, can predict the flow efficiency in the range above mentioned and is represented as a function of Reynolds number, louver pitch to fin pitch ratio, louver angle at low Reynolds number. Drag coefficient which is defined here is a function of Reynolds number, louver pitch to fin pitch ratio, louver angle below critical Reynolds number, and can be represented by a function of louver pitch to fin pitch ratio only above the critical Reynolds number.

Temperature and stress distribution of a cylinder head which is one of the combustion chamber components are very important factors for the new engine design. In this study, for the purpose of measuring stresses of a cylinder head firing face, high-temperature strain gages are installed around intake and exhaust valves of 2,4-cylinder heads. Stress distribution is measured for various range of engine speeds and engine loads. New experimental method is introduced into the research region where numerical analyses have been the main stream and will present verification data for the propriety of numerical analyses.

Bellows is a familiar component in piping systems as it provides a relatively simple means of absorbing thermal expansion and providing system flexibility. In routine piping flexibility analysis by finite element methods, bellows is usually considered to be straight pipe runs modified by an appropriate flexibility factor; maximum stresses are evaluated using a corresponding stress concentration factor. In this paper, the dynamic characteristics of bellows were investigated by Finite element methods. Using Anany program, the natural frequencies and evaluation of the reliability of bellows were also investigated.
