In order to improve engine performance while overcoming the weak points of Pulse and MPC(Modular Pulse Converter) turbocharging system, a new turbocharging system. "Hi-Pulse system", has been introduced and developed for medium speed diesel engine. HYUNDAI HiMSEN engines. Hi-Pulse system is to utilize not only the benefits of MPC system at higher load but also the ones of Pulse system at lower load. As for the results. the specific fuel oil consumption and NOx emission were lowered compared with the Pulse and MPC system. Performance simulation were carried out to optimize intake and exhaust timing and exhaust duct arrangement and to improve the performance of Hi-Pulse system engine.em engine.

The basic design procedures of the scoop system for cooling main condenser of a LNG carrier were reviewed. The application procedures of the experimental results from Hewins and Reilly as well as the verification method of the design for the scoop system were also studied, and the program which is able to perform the basic design calculations was developed. Using the developed program, the designs of the scoop system installed in the previous LNG carriers were examined. Through flow measurement of 137K LNG carrier sea trial and CFD of simulation, we verified scoop system design of LNG carrier. Finally, the developed program was applied to the design of new LNG carrier.

The effects of fuel injection nozzle hole on the NOx emission and fuel oil consumption of medium speed diesel engine HYUNDAI HiMSEN 6H21/32 engine are investigated by engine performance simulation. The results of performance simulation are verified by experimental results of NOx omission fuel oil consumption, cylinder pressure, and heat release rate according to the variation of the number of fuel injection nozzle hole and engine load. The performance simulations are also carried out to optimize the fuel injection nozzle of 6H21/32 engine in respect to the NOx emission and fuel oil consumption. The engine performance measurements are performed to verify the results of performance simulation and to investigate the effects of fuel injection nozzle on engine performance. The results of measurement indicate that significant NOx reduction can be achieved with minimum deterioration in fuel oil consumption by optimizing the geometry of fuel injection nozzle on 6H21/32 engine.

This study is performed to assess the predictive quality of the 3-dimensional combustion analysis on a large diesel engine, 7K98MC. The fuel injection system and scavenging flow analysis are also performed to get the fuel injection rate and the swirl ratio of fresh air induced in cylinder, which are important data to get reliable results of the combustion analysis.<br/> Fuel injection simulation results are verified with experimental data of fuel injection pump and valve pressure. Combustion analysis results are also verified with experimental data of heat release ~ate and cylinder peak pressure in error 5% and 1bar respectively. Therefore it is concluded that the fuel injection and combustion simulation models are well constructed. Combustion analysis results show that the injected fuel droplets of the 7K98MC engine are relatively well distributed in the combustion chamber.<br/>

This study is performed to assess the predictive quality of the performance simulation on a large diesel engine, 7K98MC. The fuel injection system and exhaust valve driving system analysis are also performed to get the fuel injection rate and the exhaust valve lift which are important for reliable result of the performance simulation. All simulation results are compared with measured data to confirm the modeling methods and these results.<br/> The performance simulation is performed with varying exhaust valve open time, compression shim and fuel injection time to investigate the effects of these operating conditions on the 7K98MC engine performance. Finally, the optimum operating conditions are selected in respect of fuel oil consumption and NOx emission.<br/>
