Recently, environmental-friendly agriculture (EFA) has been pointed out as an alternative for the change of our agricultural conditions. But the excessive amount of nutrients have been used to farmland since 1960s, when the intensive farming method called High-Input, High-Yield was expanded in earnest. This study was conducted to examine and compare farmers` purchasing and using fertilizer. For these purpose, data were gathered from a total of 326 farmers of the nation wide (greenhouse horticulture 60, upland cultivating 177, fruit-growing 89). The findings were as follows: First, 70.6% of greenhouse horticulture farmers, 89% of upland-cultivating farmers, 76.3% of fruit-growing farmers purchased fertilizer in Nong-hyup (farmers` cooperative organization). Second, only 54.2% of the greenhouse horticulture farmers, 60.2% of the upland cultivating farmers and 70.4% of the fruit-growing farmers recognized the optimum level of fertilizer. So, governmental organizations and agricultural technology center should carry out various programs for informing the farmers of the right way to use fertilizer and to practice EFA.

Agriculture in Korea is a reality in which continuous use of pesticides is unavoidable due to the characteristics of intensively cultivating various crops. Accordingly, there is a high possibility that pesticides with various residuals exist in agricultural fields. In addition, as the safety management of farm produce was strengthened with the implementation of the PLS, this study was conducted to preserve the sustainable agricultural environment through the investigation of the pesticide residues in the agricultural fields. As test materials, soil samples were collected from 71 orchard soils in the Jeonbuk region, dried, pretreated, and analyzed by GC-MS/MS and LC-MS/MS. For the pesticide residue analysis, the test pesticide MRM and RT were set, the analyzer LOD and LOQ were calculated, and a standard calibration curve was prepared to establish the recovery rate and confirm the quantity of the pesticide. As a result of pesticide residue analysis on 71 orchard soils, 84 components were detected at 40 sites. The area where the most pesticides were detected at 1 point was Buan, where 8 types were confirmed, and in the entire Jeonbuk area, more than 2 components of residual pesticides were detected on average at 1 point. The area with the most detected pesticides was Wanju (6 sites), where residual pesticides of 11 components were detected. The pesticide residues detected at the most points were Boscalid and Fluxapyroxad at 17 points, and the maximum values were 0.137 and 0.227 mg/kg, respectively, which were 2 to 3 times higher than the average concentrations of 0.052 and 0.068 mg/kg. Residual pesticides with high detection concentration values were Fluxapyroxad (0.227 mg/kg), Difenoconazole (0.168), Tetraconazole (0.153), Fluquinconazole (0.147), and Boscalid (0.137), all of which were germicide pesticides. It is thought that pesticide residue analysis can be used as important data for setting indicators for safe farm produce production.

Livestock manure contains all the major nutrients and various trace elements needed by crops, so it is of great value as a fertilizer although there are some differences. The livestock manure compost made from these will have different application effects depending on the raw materials, form, soil conditions, and crop type. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of livestock manure granular compost (LMGC) and livestock manure powder compost (LMPC) as basic fertilizers instead of chemical fertilizers (CF). The experiment was carried out for 2 years with potatoes (Solanum tuberosum L.) and sweet potatoes (Ipomoea batatas L.) as cultivated crops in the open fields of Gimje and Jeongeup province, respectively. Fifty percent of the recommended nitrogen requirement for soil was sprayed with livestock manure and the insufficient amount of NPK ingredients was supplemented with CF. The fertility components of potato growing soil, which were insufficient before the test, increased close to the appropriate level after the test, and soil carbon storage increased by 2%. The available P2O5 content of the sweet potato cultivated soil, which was higher than the optimal value before the test, did not increase in the LMGC plot after the test, and there was no significant difference with the CF plot. The yield of potato in LMGC and LMPC plots were 98% and 111%, respectively, compared to the CF plot. And, the yield of sweet potatoes in these polts increased by 10% and 14%, respectively. These results suggest that livestock compost is sufficiently effective for nutrient supply if it is used appropriately considering the amount of ingredients, usage form, and cultivated crops according to the soil test results.
