      • 성인 단장증후군 환자의 다학제 장 재활: 국내 단일 기관 다학제 장재활 클리닉의 경험

        Purpose: Intense multidisciplinary team effort is required for the intestinal rehabilitation of patients afflicted with the short bowel syndrome (SBS). These include enteral and parenteral nutrition (PN) support, monitoring of complications related to treatment, and considering further medical or surgical options for intestinal adaptation. Methods: In the Intestinal Rehabilitation Team (IRT) at the Samsung Medical Center, we have experienced 20 cases of adult SBS requiring multidisciplinary intestinal rehabilitation. This study is a retrospective review of the collected medical records. Results: Of the 20 subjects treated, 12 patients were male and 8 patients were female. At the time of referral to the IRT, the mean age was 51.5 years, and the mean body weight was 50.1 kg, which was 90% of the usual body weight. The diseases or operative managements preceding massive bowel resection were malignancy in 11 cases, cardiac surgery in 2 cases, trauma in 2 cases and one case, each of tuberculosis, corrosive esophagitis, atrial fibrillation, simultaneous pancreas and kidney transplantation, and perforated appendicitis. Of these, there were 14 survivals and 6 mortalities. The fatalities were attributed to progression of disease, intestinal failure-associated liver disease, and sepsis (unrelated to intestinal failure) (2 cases each). Among the 14 surviving patients, 8 patients have been weaned off PN, whereas 6 are still dependent on PN (mean PN dependence 36%). Conclusion: This paper reports the results of multidisciplinary intestinal rehabilitation of adult short bowel patients treated at the Samsung Medical Center. Further studies are required to improve survival and enteral tolerance of these patients.

        HPLC법을 이용한 효소처리스테비아의 분석법 개선 연구

        본 연구는 효소처리스테비아 분석법에 대한 개선시험법을 제시하는 연구로써 기존 JECFA에서 제시한 6종의 효소처리스테비아 분석법을 기본으로 하여 13종의 효소처리스테비아의 동시 분석을 진행하였다. 13종의 효소처리스테비아의 분석은 method validation을 통해 타당성을 제시하였고, 서로 다른 세 곳의 분석 기관에서의 동시 분석을 통해 기관별 오차, 분석일차, 그리고 분석자의 차이에 의해서도 타당한 결과를 얻을 수 있었다. 이에 대한 실험을 통해 상업용 효소처리스테비아 제품의 적용을 진행하여 13종 중 11종의 효소처리스테비아 배당체가 정량 및 정성이 이루어졌다. 이에 본 연구에서 제시된 시험법을 근거로 하여 공인된 효소처리스테비아의 정량 및 정성 연구의 체계화가 가능한 것으로 보인다. This study conducted experiments under varied conditions using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) to improve the enzymatically modified stevia analysis method presented at the Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives. The modified method was thereafter applied for the analysis of enzyme-treated stevia. HPLC was equipped with an NH2 column, acetonitrile, and water as the mobile phase, and the flow rate was adjusted to 0.5 mL/min. Each limit of detection and limit of quantitation was analyzed for method validation. Precision and repeatability were also analyzed and were determined to be within the guideline range. Totally, 13 enzymatically modified stevia were separated by HPLC chromatogram. Commercial products were subsequently analyzed using the improved method, and 11 types of enzymatically modified stevia were detected. Our results validate that the improved method can officially be applied for testing enzymatically modified stevia.

        다양한 측정법을 이용한 담마검의 연화점 분석 연구

        This study was conducted to suggest the most appropriate method for determining the softening point of dammar gum. The softening point value of dammar gum is presented in the Food Additives Code. To determine the softening point, the test was conducted using the ring and ball method for manual-heating, automatic-heating, and automatic-measurement presented in the Food Additives Code of Korea. Analytical method validation was conducted to ensure a precise measurement of the softening point. The softening point of dammar gum was 77.41℃ with a %RSD of 0.22∼5.59% in the manual-heating method, 87.20℃ with a %RSD of 0.43∼1.68% in the automatic-heating method, and 87.33℃ with a %RSD of 2.33% in the automatic-measurement method. The results of this study confirmed the precision of the experimental methods. It was confirmed that the automatic-heating method and automatic-measurement method, which provided results within the range (86.00∼90.00℃) of the softening point value of dammar gum provided in the current Food Additives Code, are appropriate for softening point analysis.

      • Teratological and neurological toxicity of biocidal mixtures distributed in Korean chemical markets using zebrafish embryos

        Biocidal products are widely utilized as multi-component mixtures of active substances to prevent harmful organisms (i.e., algae, bacteria, molds, and parasites). However, the adverse effects of biocides mixtures are not well-known compared with effects of individual biocides. In this study, seventy individual ingredients and thirty mixtures (a combination of 2 – 4 individual biocides) were exposed to dechorionated zebrafish embryos at various concentrations of individual ingredients to evaluate the developmental mortality and malformations. In addition, the calculated lethal concentration representing 10% mortality (LC<sub>10</sub>) was employed to analyze behavioral locomotion disorders of zebrafish embryos exposed to individual and mixture ingredients. The LC<sub>50</sub> ranges from 0.73 nM to 0.058 M and zebrafish larvae exhibited malformations (i.e., yolk sac edema, pericardial edema, axis, notochord, and tail defects) after exposure to 27 single ingredients. Behavior assessment revealed that hyperactivity (23 %), hypoactivity (20 %), abnormal sensitivity (16 %), complex effect (10 %), constant movement (4 %), and no-movement (3 %) were observed after exposure to 53 individual ingredients (75 %). For mixtures, zebrafish locomotion depends on the proportion of its single components:25 mixtures (83.3 %) induced behavioral abnormality in zebrafish embryos including constant movement (23.3 %), hyperactivity (20 %), hypoactivity (16.67 %), abnormal sensitively (10 %), complex effect (10 %), and no-movement (3 %). Our established developmental-neurotoxicity database provides effective in determining the list of biocidal products requiring more consideration.

      • Developmental neurotoxicity and transcriptome analysis of zebrafish exposed to methyl, ethyl, and propylparaben

        Parabens are a family of parahydroxybenzoates that have been widely used as additional preservatives in cosmetics and household care products. Due to non-covalent characteristics, parabens are easily released into the environment during the scouring process. To understand the neuroendocrine toxicity of common parabens (i.e., ethyl, methyl, and propylparaben), we assessed the behavior locomotor and conducted transcriptome sequencing (RNA-seq) analysis using zebrafish embryos after exposure to various sublethal concentrations at 0, BMD<sub>5</sub>/50, BMD<sub>5</sub>/10, and BMD<sub>5</sub> of each paraben from 2 to 120 hours post-fertilization (hpf). Zebrafish larvae showed hyperactivity and ambiguous behavioral disorders after exposure to ethyl- and methylparaben, respectively. In contrast, exposure to propylparaben did not induce any significant difference in zebrafish behavioral locomotion. Transcriptome results showed that the expression of 265, 69, and 142 transcription factors were significant affected in zebrafish larvae after exposure to ethyl, methyl, and propylparaben, respectively. Using Kyoto encyclopedia of genes and genomes (KEGG) pathways we found that endocrine-related pathways of pyrimidine, purine metabolism, and ECM-receptor interaction were significantly affected by ethyl- and methylparaben exposure at BMD<sub>5</sub>. Our study provides the considerable insight into the neuroendocrine toxicity induced by paraben on the living organism at sublethal concentration.

        어린이 글 읽기에서 나타나는 안구 운동의 특징

        이 연구는 초등학교 3학년 아동들이 나이에 알맞은 동화와 설명글을 읽을 때 보이는 안구 운동의 전반 특징과 낱말/어절 수준에 따른 특징을 우리글에서 처음으로 알아보았다. 아동들은 동화를 읽을 때 어절을 대략 213㎳ 동안 보다가 글 방향으로 3.6자 눈을 움직였고, 설명문을 읽을 때는 214㎳ 동안 보다가 글 방향으로 3.3자 정도 눈을 움직였다. 동화와 설명글 모두에서 앞으로 가서 다시 읽는 눈 움직임은 전체의 약 31%정도를 차지했다. 이런 전반 양상과 더불어, 어절 수준에서 어절 길이, 낱말빈도, 착지점 효과를 살펴보았는데, 아이들은 동화와 설명글 모두에서 긴 어절을 짧은 어절보다 오래 주시하였고, 성인 독자와 마찬가지로 눈을 어절 가운데 근처에 착지하려는 경향성을 보였다. 또한 반복되지 않은 어절들을 분석했을 때 설명글에서 빈도가 낮은 어절들은 길이에 따른 주시시간이 차이를 크게 보였고 빈도가 높은 어절들은 길이에 따른 차이를 거의 보이지 않았다. In the present study, we examined global and local characteristics of eye movements while 17 Korean third-graders read a Korean story and an expository text. In story reading, children fixated for about 213㎳ at an eojeol(word cluster), made a forward saccade of about 3.6 characters to the next eojeol, and regressed backward at 30.8% on average. In expository text reading, children fixated for about 214㎳ at an eojeol, made a forward saccade of about 3.3 characters to the next eojeol, and regressed backward at 31% on average. In addition, the effects of eojeol length, word frequency and landing position were examined. The gaze duration in the long ejoels was longer than in the short eojeols. In a further analysis where the repeatedly used eojeols were excluded, the eojeol length effect appeared in the low-frequency words, but seemed to disappear in the high-frequency words. In terms of landing position, the eyes seemed to land near the center of an eojeol more frequently than on the boundaries. When the eyes landed at the boundary of an eojeol, the eyes tended to fixate the eojeol again.

        전자센서를 활용한 소재별 가공식품의 감각 특성 표준화 비교

        본 연구에서는 주요 식품 소재별(소고기, 오리, 연어, 양) 시판되는 소재별 가공식품의 감각적 특성을 분석하였다. 전자혀 시스템을 활용한 맛 성분 분석에서 sheep#2와 duck#2에서 단맛과 쓴맛이 높게 평가되었으며, 신맛은 두 샘플 모두에서 낮은 값을 보였다. 또한, 감칠맛에서는 beef#1이 가장 높았고, 짠맛은 상대적으로 차이가 확인되지 않았다. 전자코 시스템을 통한 향기 성분의 분석 결과, 총 79종의 향기성분이 확인되었고, aldehydes류에서 가장 높은 peak area가 검출되었다. 가공식품에 존재하는 향기 성분 중 후각인지에서 긍정적인 향미 화합물인 hexanoic acid는 beef#1, duck#2, sheep#2에서 확인되었으며, propenal은 모든 샘플에서 높은 함량으로 존재하는 것은 확인하였다. 소재별 가공식품의 주요 향기 성분이라 보고된 hexanal과 nonanal은 본 연구에서도 확인되었으며, Maillard 반응에 의해 형성되는 향기 성분인 furfural과 ethylpyrazine도 샘플에서 확인되었다. 맛 성분 분석에 대한 주성분 분석 결과, 향기 성분의 주성분 분석 결과, 그리고 맛 성분과 향기 성분의 복합적인 주성분 분석 결과에서 다양한 상관관계를 확인하였다. 상관관계에서는 acids와 esters류는 heterocyclics류(r=-0.952)(P<0.05)와의 반비례적인 상관관계를 확인하였다. 쓴맛과 단맛(r=0.981)(P<0.05)의 경우 높은 비례적인 상관관계로 나타내는 것을 확인하였으며, 신맛은 단맛(r=-0.960) (P<0.05)과 쓴맛(r=-0.981)(P<0.05)이 반비례적인 상관관계를 확인할 수 있었다. 본 연구는 식품 소재별로 시판되는 가공식품의 개별 특성을 분석하였으며, 다변량 분석을 토대로 샘플과 주요 감각 소재 간의 상관관계를 분석하였다. 사용된 식품소재에 따라서 다양한 상관성을 가지지 않는 것을 확인하였으며, 주된 식품 소재 이외에도 다른 제조 공정 및 첨가물 등의 다른 복합적인 요인으로 나타난 것이라고 판단된다. 본 연구 결과를 통해 식품 소재별 가공식품의 감각성분에 대한 정보를 제공하였으며, 잠재적인 가공식품 산업에서 감각 특성에 대한 기초 자료로써 활용될 수 있을 것으로 판단된다. This study analyzed the sensory characteristics of commercially available processed food samples categorized into four main food ingredients: beef, duck, salmon, and sheep. The chemosensory approach used an electronic tongue (e-tongue) for taste component analysis and an electronic nose (e-nose) for analysis of volatile compounds. The patterns of taste and volatile compound intensities were observed, and their correlations were examined through principal component analysis (PCA). The e-tongue analysis indicated higher sweetness and bitterness in sheep#2 and duck#2 samples, while the umami values were lower in both samples. In the e-nose analysis, 79 volatile compounds were detected, with aldehydes showing the highest peak and propenal exhibiting high values across all samples. The key volatile compounds such as hexanal and nonanal were identified, along with compounds formed through the Maillard reaction like furfural and ethylpyrazine. The PCA analysis indicated a low correlation with the same food ingredients. These study results could be used as fundamental data for understanding the sensory characteristics of processed food products.
