Zinc oxide nanoparticles(ZnO NPs) are widely used in research and industrial areas due to its efficient light absorbing property in the UVA and UVB region of spectra. Recent studies have reported that ZnO NPs accumulate in the cytoplasm and causing cell apoptosis leading to cell death. Therefore, ZnO NPs monitoring tools are required to protect human health from a negative effect of ZnO NPs. In this paper,a ZnO NPs detection method is described using a quartz crystal microbalance and DNAs. From the sauerbrey equation, an increase mass is directly related with the resonance frequency shift. Based on the relation, resonance frequency shift is applied for the ZnO NPs detection. Due to the outstanding performance of quartz crystal microbalance and DNAs, real-time, label-free and high-sensitive detection of ZnO NPs is achieved. The results indicate that the quartz cyrstal microbalance and DNA based ZnO NPs detection method possesses great potential as a ZnO NPs monitoring tool.
