In the field of diesel vehicle, it is important to make fuel atomized and to generate high pressure to reduce the amount of toxin gas and increase the efficieny. So high pressure control valve is widely used in diesel engine and a solenoid valve is often used in that kind of valve. In this paper, solenoid used in the engine of diesel vehicle is investicated numerically and analytically. The solenoid is analyzed using magnetic circuit analysis and finite element method(FEM) and the result of each analysis is compared. Sestivity analysis for several design variables is also performed and the major factor in design of the solenoid is identified.

In this paper, a novel MR brake with permanent magnet is developed. This system consists of rotary disk, permanent magnet, spring and MR fluid. Permanent magnets are attached to the rotary disk and moves in the direction of radius. The magnets are linked to rotor axis by spring. As rotation speed increases, the magnets move outward from the center of the system by centrifugal force in the MR fluid. A proper design of stator or case makes the system have unique torque characteristics. To show the performance of the system, the research is performed by following procedure. First, the electromagnetic characteristic of the system is analyzed using FEM and commercial code, Maxwell is used for this analysis. Then, torque is calculated using the result of the electromagnetic analysis to validate the performance of the system.

A novel MEMS pressure sensor using resistance change of pressure switch array is proposed and developed. It consists of a silicon substrate that has a thin metal-deposited diaphragm and a pressure switch array patterned on Pyrex glass. Pressure switch array is formed by connecting serially a few of electrodes and resistances. When the pressure is applied, the change of the contact area due to the diaphragm deformation is converted to sensor output through an electric signal circuit. To form the metal-deposited diaphragm and the pressure switch array, fabrication process using micromachining technologies is presented. Then, simulation results such as a stress analysis of the diaphragm and contact area characteristics with an applied pressure are presented and several methods for linearity compensation are discussed. Furthermore, basic characteristics of the fabricated prototype are experimentally investigated and the validity of the proposed pressure sensor is verified.

Recently, piezoelectric actuator has been applied in the various fields of industry such as life science, automotive, IT and telecom. The PZT actuator is used by the reverse piezoelectric effect, which generated a mechanical displacement in the electric field. Because the displacement of this actuator is 1/1000 times of PZT element thickness or height with high voltage, this actuator has to combine with a displacement amplified mechanism. In this paper, the PZT actuator has 10 times amplified displacement using hinge-lever magnification mechanism. The free load displacement of multilayer PZT is 56㎛ at input voltage of 100Vdc, and the proposed mechanism has maximum amplified displacement of 684㎛ through the experiment. The frequency response of PZT actuator having hinge-lever mechanism is measured as resonance frequency. As a result, the resonance frequency of PZT actuator is 209.7㎐ in simulation and 204㎐ in experiment.

This paper presents analytical and experimental investigations of a semi-active damper using magneto-rheological (MR) fluids to reduce shock and noise generated in blanket cylinder of precision printing machine. MR fluids consist of a base career fluid with m-sized iron particles in suspension. MR fluids change its apparent viscosity with an applied magnetic field and generate a fluidic resistance against flow direction. MR damper can generate a controllable damping force with high response via an apparent viscosity change. First, in this paper, a design of MR damper composed of a MR valve, an electromagnet, a spring and a piston is performed with a magnetic field analysis. Second, a prototype of MR damper is fabricated with a diameter of 72㎜ and a length of 182㎜. Third, basic characteristics on damping force are experimentally investigated and discussed.

Generally, diesel vehicles emit the toxic gases including nitrogen and produce noise during operation. these problems deteriorate the comport of passangers, environmental pollutions and energy saving. As the solution for the above-mentioned problems. the method. which involves the injection of high pressure and atomization of fuel, is needed to improve the combution process of diesel engine. In this study, researches for performance improvement of the high pressure control valve with proportional solenoid actuator used in Common Rail System of diesel vehicle were accomplished. Also, the results of numerical analysis from the FEM and effects of the design parameters were discussed.

This paper presents a new control mechanism for the proportional pressure control which is accomplished by electro-pneumatic regulator using two PZT digital valves. proportional pressure control technique is very important because that can derive improvement of product quality and driving ability in the pneumatic system. solenoid actuator method for pressure control is widely used but this actuator has a high power consumption characteristics. So new actuator is required for the energy saving. In this study, PZT actuator for the pressure control was fabricated and experimented instead of the conventional type solenoid actuator. Operating voltage of 24[V], maximum pressure of 0.14[㎫] and maximum flow of 1.5[lpm] were gotten from the experimented PZT actuator. Experiments for the new control mechanism of the electro-pneumatic regulator were operated under the input condition of 0.1[㎫] and it was confirmed that this mechanism has a good control characteristics to the response sensitivity and hysteresis.

The electro-pneumatic regulator of this study is 2-stage type and consists of two piezoelectric actuators, a controller and a main poppet valve. The piezoelectric actuators are multilayer bender type and are controlled by digital signal. Solenoid actuator method for pressure control is widely used but this actuator has a high power consumption characteristics. So new actuator is required for the energy saving. In this study, PZT actuator for the pressure control was fabricated and experimented instead of the conventional type solenoid actuator. Experiments for the new control mechanism of the elector-pneumatic regulator were operated under the input condition of 0.4[㎫] and it was confirmed that this mechanism has a good control characteristics to the response sensitivity and hysteresis.

MR fluid is a suspension of micrometer-sized magnetizable particles in silicon oil and a functional fluid whose apparent viscosity can be controlled by the applied magnetic field strength. In this paper, a rotary brake using MR fluid called MR brake for tension control of precision machinery such as roll-to-roll printing machinery is presented. First, to obtain the higher performance than conventional powder brake, a MR brake with a modified rotor shape is newly designed and analyzed using FEM. Second, the prototype of MR brake is fabricated with the optimized structural parameters and an experimental apparatus is constructed. Then, basic characteristics of the MR brake are investigated with the different MR fluids. Finally, the validity of the developed MR brake is verified through the comparison with the conventional powder brake.

핫엠보싱 공정에 의한 다양한 나노소자의 제조에 있어서, 기존의 핫플레이트 방식 보다 더 생산성이 뛰어난 롤방식 핫엠보싱 공정 개발에 적용할 유도가열방식 히팅롤의 개발에 관하여 연구하였다. 아울러 본 연구의 최종목표인 롤투롤 핫엠보싱 제조공정 개발을 위한 다양한 물성특성, 공정특성, 온도 및 압력조건 등의 데이터를 추출하기 위한 특성시험을 수행할 수 있는 시험제품을 설계 제작하였다. 연구의 결과로 유도가열방식 히팅롤을 설계하기 위한 전기자기적 해석을 수행하였으며, 이 과정을 프로그램화하여 설계를 자동화하였다. 또한 히팅롤의 외통에 열확산 수단인 히트파이프를 다수 삽입하여 히팅롤의 표면온도편차를 ±0.5도까지 줄일 수 있어서 나노소자 제조 품질의 향상도 기대할 수 있게 되었다.
