The Advanced Safety Vehicle (ASV) allows drivers not only convenience and safety, but also many useful services provided by the Telematics technology. Since ASV is expected to be widely used in the near future, it is necessary to ensure the safety of ASV systems. Among several aspects of ASV, this paper investigates the safety of the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) system. Field tests are carried out under the domestic roadway and traffic conditions, according to International Standard Organization (ISO) requirements for ACC. The test data are analyzed whether the requirements are adequate for domestic circumstances, and the suggestions for findings are given.

Under the UN supervision, UNECE/WP29(United Nations Economic Commission for Europe/Working Party on the Construction of Vehicles) was established to unify the vehicle regulation as a global regulations with 58 and 98 agreement countries. Among them, UNECE/WP29 Working Party on Passive Safety(GRSP) is handle the passive safety regulation such as door locks and door retension components, pedestrian protections and head restraints as the starting points. Korea, both 58 and 98 agreement joined country. currently actively involves in GTR regulation rule-making activities.

The main function of the Forward Vehicle Collision Warning System (FVCWS) is to warn a driver when he or she experiences dangerous situations caused by a forward vehicle. Warning distance algorithms under same dangerous circumstances are often various depending on automobile manufacturers and component suppliers. Human factors also should be considered to warn the driver at an adequate warning distance. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a system for evaluating the pertinent warning timing in an identically dangerous situation. The system consists of sensors for measuring speed and acceleration of subject vehicle and target vehicle, controllers to follow the velocity profile properly, and wireless telecommunication equipments for receiving or transmitting the measured data in a real-time. According to actual field tests, it is shown that the developed system is suitable to evaluate warning distance of FVCWS.

Since hundreds thousands of pedestrians are killed or injured in car accidents every year, a variety of research efforts have been performed to protect pedestrians in pedestrian-vehicle crashes. The IHRA reports that injuries on the child head, the adult head, and the adult lower leg/knee are the most critical in the crashes. Identifying the current status of international activities on pedestrian protection, this study, in particular, carries out headform impact test using selected domestic vehicles categorized by three groups - Sedan, SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle), and 1 Box (One Box) Vehicle. According to the valuable findings from the test results, this paper proposes a methodology under which the Korean Technical Regulation for protecting pedestrians in pedestrian-vehicle crashes will be developed.

As a possibility for participation in social activity of people with disabilities increased, a request for a special vehicle for the person with reduced mobility is augmenting. There is no domestic vehicle safety regulation to ensure a crash worthiness of vehicle for people with disabilities in a traffic accident. Therefore, it is necessary that we make the domestic vehicle safety regulation of special vehicle for the person with reduced mobility. This paper is concerned with a general plan of the domestic vehicle safety regulation for the disabled.
