Diesel engine, which has high thermal efficiency, is one of the major movers. Recently, as people pay attention to the environmental pollution, thc emission of Diesel engine becomes an important problem. So it is needed to understand the characteristics of diesel fuel spray injected into a combustion chamber to reduce the emission.<br/> The factor, which controls the diesel spray, is the injection pressure, engine speed and, ambient pressure. In this paper, experiments were conducted free spray for the ambient pressure (30, 40, 50MPa), the Injection Pump speed(500, 700, 900rpm) and Nozzle Injection Pressure(10, 14, 18MPa). With the higher opening pressure, the spray tip velocity and spray penetration increases while the spray angle decreases. On the other hand. as the engine speed increases. the spray angle and spray tip velocity increases while the spray tip penetration decreases. also, while the higher ambient pressure. the spray angle increases while the spray tip penetration and spray tip velocity decreases.<br/> <br/>

Ambient gas density and Temperature effect on the width and height of Impingement spray were examined. The gas chamber density was varied 18kg/㎥ to 30kg/㎥, temperature was varied 293K to 473K. These ranges included gas density are top-dead-center conditions in current technology light-duty diesel engines. The Spray images were used to measure the impingement spray characteristics by the spray shape as the function of time and space. A mechanically actuated KP-PE type injection system was used to supply the fuel into a pressurized and heated spray chamber.<br/> With the higher density and temperature, the Impingement spray characteristic is decreased. On the other hand, The effect of temperature hardly be found in the highest density<br/> <br/>

The characteristics of spray has much effect on performance and emissions for automobile, diesel engine, gas turbine and combustion engines. So spray behavior after impinging the wall is very important for prediction the engine performance. This studies examined about impingement spray considering ambient density( I 8,24,30 kg/m³,temperature(293,473K), impingement angle(0,30,45˚). The images of impingement spray were obtained by the high speed video camera. After that we analyzed impingement spray characteristics to use this images.<br/> In this experiment, we found that 1) The spray width is reduced by increasing the ambient gas density and temperature, 2) The growth of downstream is increased by increasing the impingement angle.
