Korea Railroad Research Institute is developing the advanced urban railway vehicle to improve stability, operational efficiency, maintenance cost, environmental load. In addition, the advanced urban railway vehicle is under detail design to have car body structure which was developed in accordance with collision safety standard for passenger safety improvement. According to the collision safety standard of railway safety law, in this paper, structural and collision analysis, static load test, and prototype manufactuing for the car body were performed to consider collision accidents possible in commercial operation. Based on the results, the car body was discussed to satsfy the collision safety requirements in railway safety law. It is expected that the developed car body could contribute to improve passenger safety.

This paper is about applicable technology for Advanced Urban Transit System. The first step for Advanced Urban Transit System development is marking definition of system requirement, researching foreign country"s case, and setting suitable requirement spec for domestic environment. We"re also trying to select suitable technology to domestic environment and reflect Advanced Urban Transit System development business through researching and analyzing involved technology form domestic also overseas.
