This is one of the efforts to make a virtual model of lithium polymer battery for EV which can represent its mechanical characteristics. The prediction of fatigue life and crack propagation in welding parts of pouch cell type lithium polymer battery is the main focus of this paper. The series spot welding between different materials (Cu-Al) and between same materials (Cu-Cu) is virtually processed using a finite element method. In order to model the softening formation in melting and heat affected zone, material properties from heat treated coupons were measured and applied to the phase change model in the SYSWELD program. The spot welding wizard module which supports a full coupling computation between Electro-Thermo-Metallurgical-Mechanical processes is modified and used to construct a modeling of series spot welding. The simulation result is validated against the metallography of welding specimen.

In recent years, laser-arc hybrid welding has begun to be adopted for assembly welding of automotive bodies and parts, because hybrid welding process can weld lapped steel sheets that have a lager pap than is possible with laser welding. But if the gap is wide, burn-through occurs, and, if the gap is excessive, the two sheets cannot be welded together. For this reason, the gap is very important for hybrid welding. In this paper, to predict the twist deformation by hybrid welding when brackets are welded in B pillar of passenger car, the residual stress using CAE is analyzed and the deformation results of CAE is compared with welded panel.
