This study was conducted to estimate effects of a dietary enzyme treated fish meal (EFM) as a major protein source on growth, feed utilization and digestive enzyme activities of bluefin tuna Thunnus thynnus. In the first feeding trial (trial 1), total one hundred juvenile Atlantic bluefin tuna (body weight: 0.68g) were randomly stocked into two concrete tanks (69 tones) and fed two experimental diets for 15 days. The two diets were EFM-based diet and frozen sand lance (SL) as a raw fish feed. Weight gain was not significantly different between tuna fed EFM and SL. In the second feeding trial (trial 2), total thirty juvenile bluefin tuna (initial body weight 10.7g) were randomly stocked into the same experimental tanks and fed two diets for 14 days. The diets were EFM based diet and sardine fish meal based diet (FM). Weight gain was higher in fish fed EFM than that of fish fed FM. Feed intake was higher in fish fed FM than that of fish fed EFM. This study indicates that the dietary EFM could be an excellent protein source that can be used for Atlantic bluefin tuna feeds.

BACKGROUND: Carotenoids which are a major source of vitamin A are contributed to have great potential role in anti-carcinogenic effects and eyesight. Carotenoids which can not synthesize in human body are required for food supply. The objectives of this study are to investigate compositions and contents of pumpkin (Cucurbita spp.) germplasms based on their pulp color. METHODS AND RESULTS: Carotenoids were extracted with 0.2% ascorbic acid in ethanol and saponified with 80% potassium hydroxide. Insoluble compounds were extracted into hexane. A total of nine carotenoids (three xanthophylls and six carotenes) were identified from pumpkin germplasms using HPLC equipped with photodiode array detector (450 nm). Especially, lutein and β-carotenes were major compound in germplasms. Among isomers of β-carotene, all-trans-β-carotene (16-27% of total carotenoids) was predominant compositions. Themean of total carotenoid contents was showed as brown (286.1 mg/100 g dw) > dark green (217.0) > orange (153.4) > primrose (85.8) > dark yellow (80.3). On the basis of carotenoid information, PLS-DA score plots showed different patterns by cluster in pumpkin germplasms. It was considered that these differences of phenotype were relative closely to genotype. CONCLUSION: This study indicated that dark color of pumpkin pulp was presented in high-level of biological pigments. It may contribute to develop potentially beneficial functional food ingredients.
사료 내 효소처리어분이 치어기 참다랑어 (Thunnus orientalis) 성장에 미치는 영향

This study was conducted to estimate dietary utilization of enzyme treated fish meal (EFM) on juvenile pacific bluefin tuna (PBT) Thunuus orientalis. In first experiment (EXP 1), the pacific bluefin tuna (initial body weight 2.36g) was randomly disposed two experimental tanks. The fish were fed EFM containing 31.9% of enzyme treated fish meal and sand lance (SL) for 15 days, respectively. Weight gain (WG) was showed lower in EFM than SL. But survival and protein efficiency ratio (PER) were higher in EFM than SL. Feed conversion ratio (FCR) of EFT lower than SL. In second experiment (EXP 2) was conducted to retest growth performance between EFM and SL. The high PER and survival were obtained in EFM than SL, and FCR of EFM was lower than that of SL. EFM are suitable dietary protein source in diet of juvenile PBT considering FCR, PER and survival in feeding trial.
