There are many methods to solve eigenvalues and eigenvectors of arbitrarily shaped plates with free edges. In the paper, a new method for the free vibration analysis of the plates has been developed by catching advantages of previous methods and overcoming disadvantages. The advantage of the proposed method is to reduce the amount of data computation by changing 2-D problems into 1-D problems like BEM. In addition, the proposed method doesn’t require the discretization process of the domain of interest using nodes and elements, unlike FEM and BEM. Furthermore, since method uses basis functions independent of each other unlike the method of NDIF, it doesn’t generate spurious eigenvalues corresponding to the eigenvalues of a membrane. For the verification of the method, several case studies are carried out.
