본 연구는 최근 급성장하고 있는 고가 유소년 전용 수영장을 중심으로 고가 유소년 수영장을 선택하게 된 동기와 고가 유소년 수영클럽 내에서 이루어지고 있는 사회문화적 현상을 구명하는데 목적이 있다. 이러한 연구목적을 달성하기 위해 현상학적 연구를 실시하였다. 연구참여자는 현재 고가 유소년 수영클럽에 자녀를 보내는 학부모(엄마) 8명을 선정하였다. 자료는 참여관찰과 심층면담 그리고 관련자료를 통해 수집하였으며, 수집된 자료는 텍스트분석을 실시하였다. 이러한 연구방법을 통해 도출된 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 학부모들이 고가 유소년 수영클럽을 선택하는 동기로는 안전한 스포츠활동 공간으로의 확신, 내 아이를 위해 차별화된 특별한 시스템, 교육기관을 통해 구축된 멤버들 간의 활동으로 나타났다. 둘째, 고가 유소년 수영클럽 내에서 발생하는 사회 문화적 현상으로는 학부모의 사회적 관계를 통한 정보 공유의 장, 세대간의 사회적 네트워크 전이, 그들 내부의 또 다른 구별짓기 등으로 나타났다. 이러한 연구는 고가 유소년 전용 수영장의급성장 배경에 대한 탐구와 더불어 고가 유소년 수영클럽 활동이 스포츠문화에 어떤 의미를 가지는가에 대한 이해를 돕는다는 측면에서 중요한 작업으로 판단된다. This research explored the motivations for choosing high-priced youth swimming clubs and their sociocultural phenomena. We used a phenomenological approach when conducting the study. Eight mothers who were sending their children to high-priced youth swimming clubs were recruited to participate. Data was collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews, and relevant resources. The collected data was analyzed by text analysis. The research results were as follows. First, motivations for selecting high-priced youth swimming clubs were, conviction of safe space for sports activities, particular systems, and mothers’ group activities formed through educational institution. Secondly, sociocultural phenomena in high-priced youth swimming clubs indicated a space for sharing information through the mothers’ social relationships, for transferring social networks between generations, and for distinguishing mothers’ activities from others. This research will be a great contribution to understanding why using high-priced youth swimming clubs has increased, as well as what youth involvement in swimming clubs means in sports culture.
