To determine the role of mediastinoscopy in the preoperative staging of the primary lung cancer, we studied 23 patients from January 1993 to December 1993 and compared the results of mediastinoscopy and computed tomographic scanning with the findings at thoracotomy. Mediastinoscopy was performed in 14 patients when they had larger than 10mm mediastinal nodes at computed tomographic scanning. Six of them were found to have metastatic nodes. Nine patients, who had negative computed tomographic scanning and negative mediastinoscopic results,underwent thoracotomy. One of them was found to have a metastatic mediastinal lymph node. When results from both series of patients were compared, the sensitivity and specificity of computed tomographic scanning showed 83.3% and 47.1% respectively with an accuracy of 56.5%. The results of mediastinoscopy showed that the sensitivity was 85.7%, the specificity was 100% and the accuracy was 95.7%.Because of the low accuracy rate of computed tomographic scanning, a more routine use of mediastinoscopy seems to be justified.

From January 1989 to December 1993, cardiac catheterization and open heart surgery for ventricular septal defect closure were performed in 115 pediatric patients who were selected as meeting the criteria for elective closure of restrictive ventricular septal defect. These criteria included age greater than 1 year and less than 15 years, no evidence of congestive heart failure, Qp/Qs 2.0, pulmonary artery systolic pressure 35mmHg, and no associated cardiac anomalies. Mean age of patients was 5.25$\pm$ 3.53, and 72 patients were male, 43 patients were female[male:female=1.9:1 . Mean systolic pulmonary artery pressure was 19.66$\pm$4.79mmHg, and mean pulmonary to systemic flow ratio was 1.27$\pm$ 0.28. Aortic cusp prolapse was present in 30 patients [26% , aortic insufficiency was present in 1 paient, and 1 patient had prior bacterial endocarditis. There were no instances of complete atrioventricular dissociation, reoperations for bleeding, or reoperations for recurrent ventricular septal defect, but wound infection was present in 1 patient, and there were 7 patients who had the hemodynamically insignificant remnant shunt. There were no early or late deaths or major morbidity.
열차주행에 따른 곡선철도교량의 동적해석과 현장계측결과의 비교분석

곡선철도교량은 한정된 지형조건에서 교량의 역할을 충분히 발휘하는 강점이 있다. 그러나 곡선철도교량은 열차주행에 의해 원심력이 작용하여 직선교량과는 상이한 거동을 나타내어 설계 및 해석에 주의를 기울여야 한다. 따라서 본 연구는 기존 곡선철도교량 구간에서 고속철도차량이 주행했을 시 동적해석을 수행하였고, 실제 현장에서 계측한 결과와 비교하여 교량의 모델링 및 해석의 타당성을 검토하였다. 연구에서 선정한 기존의 교량은 신리-순천간 전라선에 위치한 임실천교로 최대 경간장 53m, 곡률반경 1,000m인 3경간 곡선교를 대상으로 하였다. 그 결과 열차주행 시, 가속도와 처짐의 수치해석결과와 현장계측 결과가 유사한 것으로 분석되었다. 따라서 본 연구를 통하여 곡선철도교량의 동적해석 수치모델링 기법을 확립하였다. Curved railway bridges have a great advantage to be adapted for limited topographical conditions. However, curved bridges get centrifugal force by train passage that their behavior is different from those of straight railway bridges. Therefore attention should be made to the design and analysis. This study performs dynamic analysis when a high-speed train passes on a curved bridge and examines the validity of the modeling and analysis. The Limsilcheon bridge selected in the study is located in Sinri-Suncheon, Jeolla line. The bridge has a maximum span length of 53m, the radius of curvature of 1000m, and is composed of three continuous spans. The calculated acceleration and deflection are similar to the field measurement results. Therefore, a method modeling curved railway bridges for dynamic analysis was established from this study.

Festivals have various cultural elements, which can be used in cultural industries, particularly in these cultural times. The cultural industry``s power can be regarded as the country``s power in 21st century, the industry emerges as the most profitable industry and the future industry. In these times, the dance art can be a potent contributor as a source of cultural assets, which can attract indefinite consumers. The present concept of the public performance as a one-time event must be changed to realize the potentiality. This aims to present interrelationship of the festival stage and the dance art by the more efficient value conversion of the latter. Festivals give a variety of effects on our society. Firstly, they have political effects to cause the political and administrative development in the districts. Secondly, they have economical effects to increase the income and the employment of the local people, and to develop the tourist industry of the district. Thirdly, they have social effects to strengthen local community sense among the people during the participation of the local festivals. Fourthly, they have cultural effects to give a lot of opportunities for experiencing various cultural activities. Lastly, when the festivals have cultural and artistic colors, they have educational effects to give the opportunity to appreciate the artistic works and to raise the level of appreciation. Therefore, the present local festivals need to be restructured on the basis of our original culture, and ``the course to make originality`` can be said to be a creative activity. In addition to it, the festivals require many other activities such as planning and execution, so the course of the festivals can be said to be a kind of a composite art. The festivals can give the opportunity to enjoy our dance art``s superiority to the modern people who have strong desire for various cultures, and to raise the level of cultural activities of the audience. Also, the festivals, as cultural products, play familiar neighbor infrastructure roles in the public performance.
