지하철의 노선 증가와 함께 이용객이 증가하였고 자연스럽게 지하철 유휴공간도 증가하였다. 유휴공간에 대한 연구는 계속해서 이루어지고 있지만 상대적으로 지하유휴공간에 대한 연구는 적었다. 지하유휴공간은 지상의 공간 부족 현상의 해결책 될 수 있고, 지하철이라는 높은 접근성을 가진 교통 인프라를 갖췄다. 따라서 이러한 요소를 살려 활용을 해야 한다. 본 연구를 통해 왕십리역에 존재하고 있는 유휴공간들을 다양한 방법으로 활용하고 지속적으로 이용 가능한 공간으로 만드는 것이다. 또한 지하철 이용객 인식의 전환을 기대하는 것이 이 연구의 목적이다. 왕십리 지하철역은 2호선, 5호선, 중앙선, 분당선의 환승이 이루어지는 최다환승역으로 서울 동북의 교통의 요충지로 자리잡았다. 또한 주변에 복합쇼핑몰인 비트플렉스와 한양대학교가 입지하여 출퇴근시간뿐만 아니라 상시 통행량도 많다. 국내 지하유휴공간활용 사례를 살펴보면 지하철역의 단조로운 상업의 문제점을 보완하기 위해 만들어진 간이 도서관, 최고의 이동 접근성을 제공하는 회의실, 색다른 볼거리 제공과 도시농업 활성화를 추구한 텃밭이 있다. 본 연구는 이러한 왕십리 지하철역의 통행량 특징과 국내 사례 연구를 참고하여 유휴공간을 활용한다. 따라서 왕십리 지하철역에 필요한 요소를 크게 ‘커뮤니티’, ‘문화’, ‘참여’로 나누었다. ‘커뮤니티’에는 이용객과 지역주민의 커뮤니티 공간인 회의실을 만드는 것이다. ‘문화’에는 이용객들 즉, 시민이 즐길 수 있는 공간을 만드는 것으로써 예를 들면 시민들의 재능을 활용한 음악 연주회나 연극, 캐리커처 그리기가 있다. 마지막으로 ‘참여’는 시민들의 참여로 직접 공간을 채운다. 예를 들면 시민들이 그린 그림으로 지하철 갤러리를 개최하거나 그들의 아이디어로 공간을 채우는 것이다. 이러한 예시들을 통해 시민들의 소통하고 지역 재생의 시발점이 되는 공간을 구축한다. With expansion of subway lines in Seoul, unused space in the subway station area have been increasing. A study on the unused space is being studied briskly; however, a study on the unused space in underground is little excepted. The unused space in underground could be solution to space shortage situation in ground, it has subway that is a high accessibility transportation infrastructure. Therefore, we should evaluate the unused space in underground to develop some useful space. Through this study, the unused space that exist in Wangsimni subway station utilize diversely and make sustainable, useable space. Also the purpose of this study is to lead the user to change awareness about station. Wangsimni station is the largest transfer station in Seoul with line 2, line 5, Bundang line, Jungang line as a major transportation hub in the northeastern Seoul. There are big multi-plex shopping mall named ‘Bitplex’, and Hanyang University around Wangsimni subway station. This is the cause of regular traffic as much as rush hour traffic in other area. On investigation about domestic examples of utilizing the unused space in subway station, there are simplicity library which is made in order to complement problem of monotonous service in station area, conference rooms providing the best accessibility, kitchen garden that pursue vitalizations of urban agriculture and provide different attraction to the user. We refer to feature of Wangsimni station’s traffic and domestic examples and study how to utilize the unused space in Wangsimni station. We divided the necessary elements in Wangsimni subway station into ‘The Community’, ‘The Culture’, ‘The Participation’. ‘The community’ is that make community rooms or conference rooms for the user and local resident by using merit of accessibility. ‘The Culture’ is that make place where not only the user but local resident could enjoy. For example, music performance, play and caricature program by making use of citizen talent. ‘The Participation’ is that place is made by only citizen’s job. For example art gallery or place that is created citizen’ idea. Using these suggestions, the unused space in Wangsimni station could be the place where the people can communicate and it can be starting point of regional regeneration.
