정신분석에서 본 유아의 심리 구조와 작품의 연관성 연구 -루이스 부르주아(Louis Bourgeois)와 에바 헤세(Eva Hesse) 작품을 중심으로-

본 연구는 작품활동을 하고 있는 연구자가 개인의 사적 배경(트라우마)을 기반으로 작업을 풀어 나가는데 연구자와 유사한 개념적 측면에서 작업하는 예술가를 선별해 그들의 작품에서 표현된 형상과 그 안에 내재된 심층적 의미를 연구해 보고 싶은 지적 호기심에서 출발한다. 두 여성 작가의 작품 안에 내재되어 있는 복합적인 심층구조를 살펴보기 위해 유아의 심리구조에 대해 연구한 멜라니 클라인(Melanie Klein)의 정신분석학에 주목했다. 그리고 클라인의 부분대상(part-objects) 개념과의 연관 하에 두 작가의 작품을 분석해 보았다. 클라인의 관점에서 유아가 생후 초기에 처음 만나는 대타자로서의 어머니의 젖가슴은 유아의 전능한 환상 속에서 욕망의 근원지이다. 어머니의 몸은 유아가 태어남으로 인해 상실된 것이며 유아가 다시 상징적으로 만나야 할 타자로 작용한다. 이에 클라인은 유아가 우울적 위치를 통과함으로써 유아에게 전능했던 어머니의 몸을 사물로 인식하게 되고 외부세계에 대한 종합적인 이해가 가능해 진다고 한다. 루이스 부르주아(Louis Bourgeois)는 작품에 공격성을 표출함으로써 자신의 트라우마를 대면해 극복하려 하였고, 분노와 용서를 넘어 더 깊은 곳에서의 원초적 화해를 준비하는 작업으로 해석할 수 있다. 에바 헤세(Eva Hesse)는 삶에서의 트라우마적 경험들을 여성의 가슴과 자궁의 형태로 은유적으로 표현하였는데, 이는 어머니의 모성적 사랑에 대한 갈구와 어머니의 몸으로 퇴행해 치유 받고 싶은 욕망을 대변한 것이다. 두 작가는 자신의 트라우마를 모성적 공간으로 돌아가 승화하였음을 유추해 볼 수 있으며, 여성 작가로서 자신의 정체성에 대해 탐구하고 찾아가는 여정에서 나온 결과로 보여진다. This study begins with an intellectual curiosity that the researcher, who is an active artist, wanting to select artists who have similar conceptual aspects, and research on the shapes expressed in their works and deep meaning within them as working on artworks based on the personal background (trauma). To examine the complex structure inherent in artworks of two female artists, psychoanalysis of Melanie Klein, who studied the psychological complex of infants, was focused. And artworks of two artists were analyzed with Klein’s concept of part-objects. From Klein’s perspective, the mother’s breasts, the very first person the infant meet in their early life, is the source of desire in the infant’s omnipotent fantasy. Mother’s body is lost as she gives birth and acts as the person the infant must meet symbolically. Klein stated that as the infant passes through depression position, the infant recognizes the mother’s body, who was omnipotent to the infant, as an object and starts to understand the outside world comprehensively. Louis Bourgeois expressed aggression in her artworks to overcome her trauma ; her works can be interpreted as the preparation for primitive reconciliation in deeper depth beyond anger and forgiveness. Eva Hesse metaphorically expressed her traumatic experiences in her life in the form of woman’s breast and womb ; this represents mother’s desire for maternal love and yearns for healing by regressing into the mother’s body. It can be inferred that two artists returned to their maternal space and sublimated their trauma ; it presents as an inevitable result derived from their journey to find their identity as female artists.
