본 논문은 Chat-GPT로 대표되는 생성형 인공지능을 활용한 군사학 연구방법론에 대한 고찰 필요성을 제시한 연구이다. 생성형 AI는 데이터 처리용량의 향상과 신속 정확한 분석능력 등 군사학 연구방법론에 활용할 수 있는 다양한 기능을 가지고 있다. 이를 바탕으로 본 연구는 인간의 창의성을 바탕으로 연구주제를 도출하고, AI를 활용하여 연구주장을 뒷받침할 수 있는 다양한 방법론을 적용하는 형태의 군사학 연구방법론 발전에 대한 논의가 이루어져야 한다고 주장한다. 군사학은 사회과학의 한 분야로 분류되어 있지만 군사와 관련된 광범위한 문제를 해결하기 위해 다양한 방법론의 적용이 필요하다. 이러한 관점에서 AI 기반의 연구방법론은 기존 연구방법의 제한을 극복할 수 있는 잠재력을 보여주고 있다. 다른 학문 분야에서도 이미 AI를 활용한 다양한 연구사례가 제시되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 생성형 AI의 장점을 활용하여 군사학 연구방법론의 세 가지 발전방향을 제시한다. 첫째는 기존의 정성적·정량적 연구방법을 적용함에 있어 효율성을 증대하는 것이다. 둘째는 시뮬레이션·행태주의·반사실적 분석·페르소나 활용 등 기존 연구방법론으로 수행이 제한되었던 한계를 극복하는 것이다. 셋째는 거시적 차원의 경향성 도출과 다른 학문과의 연계를 활용한 새로운 연구기법을 개발하는 것이다. This paper explores the necessity of research methodologies in military science using generative artificial intelligence, exemplified by Chat-GPT. Generative AI, with its enhanced data processing capacity and rapid analytical abilities, offers diverse functionalities applicable to military science research methodologies. Building on this, the study advocates for a discourse on the development of military science research methodologies. This involves deriving research topics from human creativity and employing various AI-supported methodologies to substantiate research claims. While military science falls within the realm of social sciences, addressing a broad spectrum of military-related issues necessitates the application of diverse methodologies. From this perspective, AI-based research methodologies show promise in overcoming limitations inherent in traditional research methods, as evidenced by various cases in other academic fields. The paper proposes three directions for the development of military science research methodology by leveraging the advantages of generative AI. Firstly, it suggests enhancing efficiency in applying existing qualitative and quantitative research methods. Secondly, overcoming limitations inherent in traditional research methodologies, such as simulation, behaviorism, reflexive analysis and utilize persona. Thirdly, developing of new research techniques focusing on macro-level trends and utilizing interdisciplinary connections with other academic fields.
