In the optical application demand for high quality lens is increasing. Plastics lenses are demanded more than glass lenses for large size lenses as well as micro-size lenses. It is difficult to apply typical straight cooling channels of injection mold to lens molding due to its non-uniform temperature distribution. In this study, we manufactured molds for plastic lenses with the conventional cooling channels and conformal cooling channels produced by the DMLS process. We evaluated cooling performance for the 2 molds by injection molding experiment. Also, uniformity of the temperature distribution was tested by infrared camera and temperature monitoring. We confirmed that the cooling performance and temperature uniformity with the conformal cooling channels is much improved from the ones with the conventional. The cooling time with the conformal cooling channels was reduced 30% compared with the conventional cooling channels.
금형 급속가열-냉각이 적용된 이생사출성형의 플래쉬 발생 예측

The mold rapid heating and cooling technology is applied to the thin-walled two color injection molding producing high-quality electronic products. In case of thin-walled two color injection molding, the flash is often generated when molten polymer flows into small gap at parting line in mold with high injection pressure or under unbalanced clamp force condition. In this study, we investigated the effect of processing conditions on flash generation using injection molding CAE. We found that the flashing could be caused by the structural imbalance of the moving plate in the clamping state. The predicted flash shape was compared with experimental result.

Liquid silicone rubber (LSR) has been widely used in automotive, electrical, and medical components. Thus, research on the use of LSR in the injection molding process is required to obtain high-quality and high-performance products. In this study, a mold was fabricated to examine the effects of the process parameters on the molding and mechanical properties of LSR parts. A computer-aided engineering analysis was used to optimize the air vent depth and curing temperature to decrease the flash at the air vents caused by the low viscosity of LSR. Temperature and pressure sensors were mounted in the mold to determine the effects of the process parameters on the temperature and pressure in the cavity. The tensile strength of the LSR parts was also examined in relation to the process parameters.

Recently various types of rapid mold heating/cooling technology have been developed in order to improve surface quality of products and flow ability of polymer. In this study, injection molding CAE for rapid mold heating and cooling was performed to analyze molding characteristics of the automobile band-cable. The effects of the rapid mold heating and cooling technology on the molding characteristics and pressure distribution were compared with conventional injection molding. Finally, we evaluated component technologies such as rapid mold heating and cooling system, mold materials, vacuum system through experiments to solve molding problems.

Environmental control system is installed to dissipate the thermal load in avionic equipments which is mounted under aircraft. The operating characteristics of the system changes with the variations of control parameters. In this study, the environmental control system was designed and built by adopting vapor compressor cycle using R-124. The operating characteristics of this system was experimented varying control parameters, such as refrigerant charging amount, expansion device opening, compressor rotating speed, blower rotating speed. The effect of the control parameters on the environmental control system was analyzed and the optimum control method was suggested.
