Background: The relationship between dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEA-S) and bone mineral density (BMD) is controversial. And findings of most studies that have investigated this relationship are restricted to postmenopausal women. In this study, we investigated the relationship between serum DHEA-S and BMD in both men and women. Methods: This cross-sectional study evaluated a total of 294 healthy Korean participants through a medical examination program. And a subgroup of 154 participants was subjected to a longitudinal analysis. We measured BMD by dual energy X-ray absorptiometry and assayed DHEA-S by a chemiluminescent immunoassay. Results: We evaluated the association between serum DHEA-S concentration and BMD at the femur trochanter after adjusting for cofounders such as age, body mass index, lifestyle factors, serum cortisol level, serum insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) level, and sex. Through our longitudinal study, we found that the changes in BMD at the total spine, at the femur neck, and at the femur trochanter were all smaller in the ΔDHEA-S <0 group than in the ΔDHEA-S >0 group. Conclusions: We found that there was a positive correlation between serum DHEA-S and femur BMD, which suggests that controlling serum DHEA-S levels may retard age-related BMD reduction in Koreans.
가스크로마토그래피/질량분석법에 의한 최적화 유도화 과정을 통한 Atrazine의 새로운 분석방법 개발

Pesticides, with their high degrees of toxicity constitute a very impOrtant group target compound in environment samples. The use of many pesticides has been restricted or even banned while several years bemuse of their long residue times, persistence and bio-accumulation. Atrazine was derivatized using a single-step procedure by N,O-bis(trimathylsilyl)-acetamide acetonitrile in various solvent systems such as methanol, ethyl acetate, pyridine, and tetrahy&ofuran(Tl). The variables selected for study were the amount of reagents, the temperature and reaction times. The elelctron impact ionization mass spectra of the resulting derivatives are acquired and properly interpreted. Under the optinaized gas chromatographic conditions employed, an enhanced (3 times) peak height and an improved peak shape without any tailing. The purpose of this study was the development and application of GC-MS method for efficient analysis of atrazine.
변형시킨 polysulfones의 개선된 열적특성에 관한 연구

Polysulfone(PSF)는 비결정성 수지로서 수축이나 휨이 극히 작고 또 높은 내열성, 강인한 기계적 성질을 가지고 있어 정밀성형용Engineering plastic 극히 우수한 재료이다.이Polysulfone(PSF)에 electron-withdrawing group과 electron-donating group을 치환 시켜을 때 이 물질들이 Polysulfone(PSF)의 열적안정도에 미치는 영향을 TermoGravimetry Analyzer(TGA)와 Differential Scanning Calorimeter(DSC)을 사용하여 비교 조사하였다.Polysulfone(PSF)의 열분해 온도(air, argon조건하에서)는 대략 400∼550℃이다.이 때 Polysulfone(PSF)에 electron-withdrawing group을 치환시키면 열분해 온도가 증가함을 볼수있고, electron-donating group을 치환시키면 열분해 온도가 감소함을 볼 수 있었다.

Background: The factors for predicting aging-related muscle loss are not clearly identified. The aim of this study is to examine factors associated with muscle loss in Korean older adults. Methods: We assessed 329 subjects aged 60 years and older who participated in the health checkup programs twice in one to two years’ time period. Muscle loss group was defined as those with 5% or more decrease in fat-free mass. The biomarkers were compared between the muscle loss and non- loss groups adjusting for potential confounders. Results: The number of subject in muscle loss group was 30 (9.1%). Serum albumin concentration was significantly lower in the muscle loss group than that in the non-loss group. Based on the ROC curve results, serum albumin was the predictor of muscle loss (Area Under Curve=0.656). Multivariate regression results presented the odds ratio of 1 standard deviation of baseline albumin level for the muscle loss was 0.446 (95% confidence intervals 0.271-0.734, P=0.001). Conclusion: Baseline serum concentrations of albumin may be a significant indicator to predict muscle mass loss in Korean adults aged 60 years and older.
