This paper focuses on the introduction of the diesel direct injection engine with 1600bar common rail, XDi 270, this engine was developed to achieve the power of 170PS. Our company has been producing the 5 cylinder indirect injection diesel engine under the technical tie-up with Mercedes Benz since 1993 and after that the high reliability for durability that is the engine development philosophy of Mercedes Benz still maintains the good reputation from customers, this engine development philosophy was also succeeded to XDi 270 engine. Especially the new technologies were considered to achieve the higher performance, the lower fuel consumption, the higher reliability and the better NVH characteristic that is demanded continuously by customers and to meet the emission regulations that is still more severe for the prevention of air pollution. The common rail XDi 270 that is equipped with New Rexton solved the customer' complaints for the dynamic response at a time and realized the "Fun to drive". The more the time passes on, the more the value of XDi 270 will be higher by customers.

A cooling system is related to engine performance and durability. It is very important to cabin heating for driver as well as engine cooling. A cooling system can be optimized by efficiency improvement of water pump, modification of coolant route and thermal analysis. In this study, the simple change of coolant routes influenced to cooling performance of the engine inside. A cool ing system was evaluated by pressure distribution, flow visualization. Therefore, the coolant flow and direction was predictable by pressure distribution and cooling system can be optimized.

This paper is the Experimental study of Cylinder bore honing application parameter having been influenced on oil consumption in a common-rail direct injection diesel engines because a oil consumption become more and more important factor in engine development due to the extremely strict emission requirements. Both honing type (Brush honing being used meantime and Plateu honing to be applied newly) are used in this test. The plateu honing technology is the best application to reduce a continuous oil consumption as well as Initial oil consumption. For almost all of test on a chassis dynamometer, road load which is imposed to the test vehicle when it is operating on real load should be reproduced by the test equipment. For this, actual road load of the test vehicle should be measured and coastdown test is one of the most frequently used method. The resistant forces can be drawn from vehicle speed and deceleration duration with the engine ungeared during free rolling under prescribed condition. To comply with the prescribed test condition, long straight and flat test road should be prepared as well as ambient condition in aspect of temperature, pressure, wind speed and humidity should be met. This test condition can be hardly met and thus considerable effort and time are required to obtain correct test results. This study is focused on a new methodology to calculate running resistance of a vehicle from segmentalized coastdown measurement in order to minimized the effect of road and ambient condition.

Today's modern engines are designed for higher Power and Engine speed, thus optimized concerning the dimensions of engine bearings in terms of low friction and sufficient bearing oil pressure. Oil aeration is the process by which air is circulated through, mixed with or dissolved in a liquid or substance. Oil aeration measuring methods are only capable to determine the share of dissolved (free) gas in the Common-Rail Direct Injection Diesel Engine Oil(Lubricant). The effects of oil Aeration on engine drive causes malfunctions of several components. The high oil aeration can cause hydraulic lash adjuster malfunction and connecting rod bearing failure. A successful optimization of the oil circulation concerning the oil aeration presupposes a safe and reproducible measuring procedure. This paper results of recent research and development work concerning the occurrence of oil aeration within the lubricant system of New Development Engine.
