The effects of a seam blade on the performance of an axial flow fan, which is widely used in ventilation, were investigated experimentally. The seams were setup onto the pressure surface of the blade. The four blades with edge seam, double stem seam, edge & double stem seam, and seamless were manufactured for the test, and their effects on the flowrate were evaluated. The stem seam onto the blade was designed according to the formula of quadratic curve. Axial velocity distribution and flowrate were measured using a pitot tube, and they were compared at the same condition. In addition, the fan noise and consuming power were compared with commercial products and newly designed blades. The blade with the double stem seam showed highest flowrate among them.

The Spray performance of a fuel injector have an important effect upon engine power and emission. This study discusses the spray behavior of an intermittent injection using a gasoline fuel injector. Image processing system and PDA system was utilized for the visualization of a spray behavior and the measurement of a fuel drop size and mean velocity. respectively. Fuel injection duration was fixed with 3ms and injection pressure was varied. As results. mean spray arrival time is linear increased with spray axis distance. Spray axis velocity linear correlate with fuel drop size in the time interval of an injected main spray.<br/>

The flow characteristics of the 2-dimensional model defroster duct which simulated defroster duct system inside a vehicle passenger compartment was investigated to obtain the data of the dafroster duct design with nozzle shape and impinging angle etc.. As the results from the experiment. the contraction ratio and shaps of the dafroster nozzle which is one of the most important parameters in the duct design affected the dischargecoefficient of the defroster nozzle. The half-width of the wall jet formed by a impingement of the plane free jet issued from the defroster nozzle on the windshield increased with the dacrease of the impinging angle. And also we could find that there was a reflection point of the momentum distribution with impinging angle near the 60 deg..<br/>

The spray characteristics of a direct injection multi-hole diesel nozzle having the 2-spring nozzle holder were investigated by using the image processing system and a PDPA(phase Doppler particle analyzer) system. The penetration, spray angle, particle velocity and drop size with the variation of the pump speed(400,600, 800rpm), rack position(4,5.6mm) were measured. The spray characteristics of the multi-hole diesel nozzle were shown significant differences in comparison with that of a single-hole nozzle studied previously. From the measurements along the axis of the spray, a)the peak velocities are reduced as along the axial distance. b)close to the nozzle, the first injected droplets are immediately overtaken by droplets that follow them. c)the droplet diameter range is much larger nearer the nozzle and giving much larger values of SMD near the nozzle. The increasement of injection frequency and quantity of injected fuel result in higher velocity and larger SMD distribution.<br/>

This experimental study is to investigate the intermittent spray characteristics of the multi-hole nozzle used in the fuel injection system of a heavy-duty diesel engine. A multi-hole diesel nozzle with a 2-spring nozzle holder was used in this study, and without changing the total orifice exit area, its hole number varied from 3(dn = 0.42mm) to 8(dn = 0.25mm). Through the use of the 2-D PDPA(phase Doppler particle analyzer), the velocity of the diesel spray injected intermittently from the multi-hole nozzle into the still ambient were measured.<br/> Immediately after injecting, with an abrupt diffusion, the multi-hole nozzle spray represented a wide half-width and a large gradient of half-width. And thereafter both of them decrease. At the end of injection, a gradient of half-width approximated to 0.05 regardless of nozzle hole numbers. The axial mean velocity measured along the centerline of the spray was similar to that of the free air jet within X/b = l.0-1.5 regardless of time, and the non-dimensional distribution of the axial mean velocity comparatively corresponds to the theoretical velocity distributions suggested by Hinze in the downstream of the spray flow fields.<br/>
