This study investigate thermal stress on the HRSG casing adopting heat sink by experimental data and numerical simulation. Heat sink is adopted on the HRSG casing to reduce the thermal stress. Thermocouples are installed on the operating HRSG casing to measure the temperature. Measured data shows that temperature gradient is rapid on the middle section of the HRSG casing. On the middle section, the temperature gradient is average 100℃ and it will cause extreme thermal stress. By numerical simulation we found out the local temperature data and measeared the thermal stress on the HRSG casing. Thermal stress on the middle section of HRSG casing is the highest and we can easily assume that the breakages are frequently happens on that position. So, we installed the heat sink on the vulnerable position on the HRSG casing to reduce the thermal stress. By installing the heat sink, we can reduce the peak thermal stress by 10% on the vulnerable position. As a result, heat sink can reduce the thermal stress on the HRSG casing.

Axial cyclone for precipitating the oxide iron in HRSG stack is devised in this study. Numerical simulation is performed to evaluate pressure drop between inlet with outlet of HRSG stack and performance of axial cyclone precipitator. RSM turbulence model is used for calculation because of its good validity with swirl flow. As a result, pressure drop is increased as angle of guide vain is decreased. However performance factor of precipitator which determined from swirl number has maximum point when the angle of guide vain is 40 degree.

Axial cyclone was designed to collect iron oxide rear the heat recovery steam generator. In this study, we used the numerical method to estimate the fluid characteristics and particle dynamics in axial cyclone with conical tube which enhanced the swirl flow for higher collection efficiency. As a result, particle density increased near the wall which to particle absorbed and swirl number increased.

Flow separation, which generates at back side of vane in axial cyclone causes increasement of pressure drop and deteriorates collection efficiency of particle which should be avoided for thermal efficiency of plant and environmental problem. On this research, axial cyclone is studied for enhancing swirling performance for collection efficiency by applying curved vane. Numerical method was performed by Ansys Fluent 17.2. On the results, average swirl number is increased when vane angle of flat and curved vane is same.
