The traceability & transparency system is being emphasized more than ever in the aftermath of a series of food-safety related scandals. But with the traceability & transparency only, food safety is not guaranteed. For the food safety system to be meaningful, it should be based on 3 basic conditions: (1) the clear-cut standards concerning the food production & distribution, (2) the traceability & transparency, (3) the checking system to assure that all the standards are kept well and the disclosed information is really true.This paper examined the structure and objectives of the Nen-Noh Beef Assurance System and showed the success of this system is strictly linked to the fact that it is based on the above-mentioned basic conditions.

Because of its product characteristics, pork is said to be comparatively difficult to make a strong brand and, even after a brand is established, the price gap among the brands is not as significant as beef. Under this situation, the Kagosima Gurobuta has succeeded in developing a celebrated brand and have reached the top of branded porks. In this paper, the brand development of the Kagosima Gurobuta, which is a result of product differentiation in the process of production & distribution and marketing activities to keep the differentiation throughout the distribution channel, is analyzed mainly focusing on the product differentiation and certification system.

The wine market of Japan has been expanding rapidly with its developing economy since 1970s. Now the Japan wine market represents a very high seller concentration and is under the control of a few of big scale wine makers. Moreover Japan wine industry has largely depended on the imported wine & raw materials and such trends is getting stronger recently under the name of cost saving and quality improvement of Japan wine. However, there are a lot of small and medium scale wine makers in Japan, which has been trying to make an original Japan Wine for a long time. In this paper, such medium scale wine makers are analyzed mainly focusing on how they acquire raw grape and market their wine.
