The antibacterial efficacy of a mouthrinse(Denta Gargle) containing CPC(cetylpyridinium chloride), NaF and UDCA(ursodeoxycholic acid), on major periodontopathogens, was in vitro examined and compared with that of Listerine by a broth dilution method. The bacteria tested were Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans, Bacteroides forsythus, Fusobacterium nucleatum subsp. vincentii, Prevotella intermedia, Porphyromonas gingivalis and Treponema denticola. The growth of all the bacteria were completely inhibited by a 1-min exposure to the both mouthrinses. When diluted at 1:5 or more, all bacteria analyzed but P. intermedia were not inhibited by Listerine. In contrast, Denta Gargle showed highly increased maximum inhibitory dilutions(MID) against all periodontopathogens included in this study, with MIDs ranging from 5-fold(F. nucleatum) to 160-fold dilutions(P. intermedia). The MIDs against A. actinomycetemcomitans, B. forsythus, P. gingivalis and T. denticola. were 1:40, 1:80, 1:80 and 1:80, respectively.
어선원 인명피해 최소화를 위한 구명동의용 위성자동위치발신기의 특성

The efficiency tests of automatic positioning transmitter (APT) using satellite on life jacket were carried out to minimize casualties of fishermen and to make system optimization for effective SAR (Search and Rescue) operation. As the result of the tests, average position was equaled on the comparison between SPOT using low earth orbit satellite and DGPS (Differential Global Positining System), but standard deviation of DGPS for latitude and longitude were 66.4% and 46.3% smaller than those of SPOT. The position precision of SPOT was almost two times lower than LGT using geostationary satellite to compare 95% circular error probability. However, the success rate of receiver for SPOT was revealed as 86.5~94.1% on the experiments in the South Sea and the West Sea and it was 4.5 times higher than LGT. Therefore, SPOT is expected to contribute greatly to the rapid rescue of victim.

Chronic sclerosing sialadenitis, also known as Kuttner tumor, is a benign chronic inflammatory lesion of the salivary gland. Here, we describe a case of chronic sclerosing sialadenitis with mucinous ductal metaplasia in a parotid gland, which was confused with low-grade mucoepidermoid carcinoma on aspiration cytology.

For telecommunication system construction to minimize the casualty of fisher, we investigated the usability of TRS communication system and performance of GPS automatic position transmitter (APT) which can be utilized for the survival, search and rescue of the victims. The trial experiments were conducted at sea with TRS and CDMA in the East, West and South Sea of Korea from October to December. As a result, the usability of the TRS as an emergency communication system device was verified since it provided stable position and voice information to the boundary of 50㎞ far from the coast. Therefore the system is expected to contribute to minimization of victims.

Up to 70% of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) are afflicted with neurologic manifestations. However, there are only a few reports documenting acute leukoencephalopathy in SLE. We describe a 20-year-old woman who was recently diagnosed as SLE, suffering from headache, fever and arthritis. She developed an acute onset of consciousness disturbance with seizure followed by prolonged coma, which recovered completely after 1 month of steroid therapy. Her brain MRI showed diffuse high signal intensity in the periventricular and subcortical white matter on T2-weighted and FLAIR images, whereas cerebral cortex, basal ganglia, and thalamus were spared. Acute leukoencephalopathy may be recognized as a subtype of lupus involving the central nervous system.
AL-Scan;을 이용한 술 전 안구생체계측과 백내장 수술 후 굴절력 예측의 정확성

Purpose: To compare the axial lengths, anterior chamber depths, and keratometric measurements and to predict postoperative refractions of AL-Scan<sup>®, IOL master<sup>®, and ultrasound. Methods: A total of 40 eyes in 30 patients who received cataract surgery were included in the present study. The axial length, anterior chamber depth, and keratometry were measured by 2 types of partial coherence interferometry (AL-Scan<sup>®and IOL master<sup>®) and ultrasound. The SRK/T formula was used to calculate IOL power, and the predictive error which subtracts predictive refraction from postoperative refraction was compared among the ocular biometry devices. Results: Axial lengths were 23.08 ± 0.62 mm, 23.09 ± 0.62 mm, and 22.99 ± 0.62 mm measured by AL scan<sup>®, IOL master<sup>®, and ultrasound, respectively. Axial length measured by ultrasound was statistically significantly shorter than AL scan<sup>® and IOL master<sup>® (p < 0.001, p < 0.001, respectively). The anterior chamber depth and keratometry were 3.11 ± 0.06 mm and 44.82 ± 1.34 D measured by AL scan<sup>®, and 3.13 ± 0.06 mm and 44.85 ± 1.26 D measured by IOL master<sup>®, respectively. The differences of anterior chamber depth and keratometry between the 2 devices were not statistically significant (p = 0.226, p = 0.331, respectively). The mean absolute prediction errors were 0.44 ± 0.35 D, 0.40 ± 0.34 D, and 0.39 ± 0.30 D in AL-Scan<sup>®, IOL master<sup>® and ultrasound, respectively, and were not statistically significantly different (p = 0.843, p = 0.847, p = 1.000, respectively). Conclusions: The ocular biometric measurements and prediction of postoperative refraction using AL-Scan<sup>® were as accurate as IOL master<sup>® and ultrasound.
