The analysis shows that the variation of maximum pressure of the cycle, rate of heat release, rate of mass burned, and combustion delay are influenced by the inlet air humidity in the spark-ignition engine.<br/> The quantitative combustion delay can be obtained from the rate of mass burned. Also, the variation of time loss and effective compression ratio with the change of inlet air humidity are<br/> dominated by the development of rate of heat release.

The influence of inlet air humidity on the flame velocity and combustion of the spark ignition engine were described experimentaUy by means of the flame velocity measuring apparatus using ion-current. The flame velocity are greatly influenced air fuel ratio and engine speed, and linealy decrease according to the increasing of inlet air humidity.<br/> The flame travell curve is very similar to the rate of mass burned and combustion progressive is estimated mostly by only the rate of mass burned curve.<br/> The decreasing of the mean flame velocity is about 0.4m/s for increasing of 0.001 specific humidity and we think the reason is mainly decreasing of thermal conductivity.

In this paper. combustion characteristics ignited by single-hole and multi-hole plasm jet igniter and conventional spark plug have been studied by means of schlieren photography and pressure measuring in the Pent-roof type and the Toroidal bowl type constant volume vessel which is typical 4-valve 51 engine combustion chamber. It is represented that combustion characteristics ignited by conventional spark plug ignition are hardly influenced by configurations of combustion chamber. In contrast. in case of plasma jet ignition, combustion duration and combustion enhancement rates are effected than spark plug ignition. Consequently. it is important to avoid plasma jet impingement against combustion chamber wall. and to let flame front move toward wide place in the combustion chamber at early stage of combustion

This study describes a fundamental performance characteristic in the methanol engine. The engine development of low emission, high performance and low fuel consumption is possible because the methanol engine has an advantage of lean burn and high compression combustion. The effects of turbulent flow characteristics affected on early combustion process in methanol-air mixtures have been stuied in a constant volume vessel. Instantaneous flow velocity, turbulent intensity and turbulent scale were investigated in order to analyze the turbulent flow characteristics. Experiments were made under different turbulent intensity and turbulent scale. A comparison of the turbulent flow characteristics on flame kernel volume and flame kernel volume variation ratio is also presented.<br/>
