조직신학 : 우주론의 패러다임 전환과 신학적 함축성 연구

우주론은 지적 존재로서 인간의 궁극적 관심으로서 우주의 기원과 구조, 그리고 시작과 종말에 관한 질문에 대한 설명이다. 오랫동안 종교를 통해 설명되어온 우주론은 근대과학의 출현 이후 과학의 전유물이 되었다. 종교는 인간의 영혼의 구원문제에만 국한하고, 과학은 물리세계의 영역에서 교도권을 행사하게 된 것이다. 과학의 분리를 통해 양자의 충돌을 막을 수 있었다는 긍정적인 효과는 있었지만, 다른 한편으로는 인간이 우주론으로부터 소외되는 문제도 심화되었다. 이 지점에서 우리는 우주론과 관련하여 과학과 종교의 대화의 필요성을 느끼게 된다. 우주론에는 이 세계가 기원과 구조뿐만 아니라, 자연과 인간에 대한 가치론으로서 신학적 함축성을 내포하고 있다. 성서는 하나님께서 어떻게 이 세계를 창조하셨는지에 관한 이야기로 시작한다. 일부 근본주의 신앙은 창세기를 문자주의적으로 해석하는 ‘창조과학’ 혹은 ‘과학적 창조론’을 주장함으로써 과학과 갈등을 빚고있다. 본 논문은 문자주의에 의존하는 창조과학의 방법론이 지닌 신학적 한계를 지적하고 우주론에 내포된 보다 풍부한 신학적 함축성을 제시한다. 본 논문은 고대 우주론부터 현대의 빅뱅 우주론까지 소개하면서 각 시대의 우주론에 내포된 신학적 함축성을 검토한다. 그리고 현대의 빅뱅 우주론으로부터 읽어낼 수 있는 신학적 의미를 제시한다. 이 광대한 우주 안에서 인간은 지극히 미미한 존재에 불과하지만, 그와 동시에 드넓은 우주를 창조한 하나님의 목적을 탐구하는 유일한 존재임을 자각할 때, 우리는 우주론의 의미와 창조의 신비를 더욱 깊이 사색할 수있는 것이다. This article aims to reflect on the theological implications in relation to the paradigm shifts of cosmology according to the history in the context of interdisciplinary debates between science and religion. Cosmology is not only scientific explanation but includes religious implication because its nature being depended on the paradigm, as Thomas Kuhn asserted in his studies on the structure of scientific revolution. Religion and science have interacted each other through the history. There is a myth that religion always suppressed science, and denied scientific discoveries. However, more reliable historical researches on the relationship between science and religion illuminated that the two domains have generally maintained peace rather than war, and its relationship is not inevitably conflict but some other options such as independence, dialogue and integration according to Ian Barbour. The Genesis story in Bible shares in its literary form with the ancient Babylonian myth of creation. Nevertheless its theological assertions are essentially different from the myth of the ancient kingdoms. Also the text in Bible should not be regarded as a scientific explanation, but interpreted by focussing on its theological messages. Ptolemy’s cosmology that had dominated in the Western civilization throughout middle age was greatly constructed with the ancient astrology as well as Greek philosophy, Christianity. It’s geocentric system was not represented as merely an astronomical theory, but combined with Christian dogma such as Heaven, Earth and hell. Copernicus’ heliocentric system had subverted the former system, and completed by Galilei and Newton. It also contained theological implication that the universe can be recognized as a great clock run in accordance with the physical laws which God allowed. Therefore, every motion and change in cosmos can be perfectly comprehended by reason. This way of thinking brought the mechanical world-view which encouraged enlightenment by believing that the human can understand the physical world as well as human society and history. The Big Bang cosmology being credited as a standard theory by scientific community in contemporary era, was formulated on the basis of theory of relativity and quantum physics. It has recalled a theological implication on ‘creatio ex nihilo’(creation from nothing) among Christian theologians by suggesting that the universe has a singular point, the beginning moment of creation. The Big Bang theory also indicates that any point in the universe can be the centre and the edge at same times.
