Metal fiber DPF system is cheaper and more endurable than ceramic filter, but the regeneration near the 4th layer is not accomplished because the necessary amount of heat for the regeneration is not provided since the mass flux near the 4th of W-shape filter is little. Therefore, a 3D CFD simulation is performed to investigate the effects of major factors on the mass flux variation near the 4th layer. The flow factor is volumetric flow and design geometry factors are cone-angle, size and distance of distributor, and gap between filters. Generally, a DOC has a shape of monolith and a metal fiber DPF has a flexible shape which can change gap and arrangement easily. Both of them are assumed porous media, connection clearance inside DPF is removed for simplification, macroscopic geometry which influences mass flow remains.

In this paper, we studied about active regeneration characteristics of wall flow type Metal Fiber DPF. Active re-generation rate of DPF is analysed into soot loading quantity, regeneration time, heat insulation thickness, and so on. By the measurement of temperature distribution DPF inner side during regeneration, soot loading limit of metal fiber DPF is concluded. In case of SiC filter, after 5 time active regeneration, macro crack is generated across the filter, but metal fiber filter don't fragile till 7 time regeneration. In this study, metal fiber DPF has over 9g/L soot loading capacity. During 12weeks vehicle test of the DPF, maximum pressure drop is 250mbar, but after active regeneration the pressure drop is lowed to 30mbar.
