This study was carried out to optimize the design of HPF(Hot press forming) process for a lock-up clutch piston of a automatic transmission. The lock-up piston which is a component of the torque converter must have properties such as the high strength and resistibility about the deformation because high oil pressure is repeatedly applied. Therefore the lock-up piston is must manufactured through the HPF to get the high strength also to reduce the spring back. In this study, FE analysis and experiments were conducted to propose the optimum design for the HPF process. In result of the simulation, the distributions of the temperature, stress, strain and spring back were predicted during the HPF process. Also the optimum condition for the HPF is proposed by the correlation between parameters such as the pressure, temperature, dwell time of the die and results of experiments.
