        Torque converter that is located between the engine and automatic transmission, transfers power to the automatic transmission from the engine. The automatic transmission has the many advantages as ease of operation, smooth shifting, low transmission shock compared with a manual transmission but the automatic transmission has the power loss. Because the power is delivered by fluid. In order to compensate for the power loss, the engine is directly connected to the automatic transmission by the lock up clutch. Thus, Lock-up clutch has a similar structure and characteristics with the clutch of a manual transmission. When the lock-up clutch is engaged, the maximum efficiency is obtained by combining the input shaft and output shaft. But NVH problems are occurred due to the vibration from engine. And also, there is more to vibrate when the lock-up clutch is engaged at the low speed. This problem can not be solved by the previous damper system. So it has been studied on multi-stage damper, long travel damper, turbine torsional damper, and twin torsional damper to solve the problems and to improve fuel economy. In this study, we have investigated the new advanced damper system to improve fuel economy. This paper shows the influence for all of the factors in the advanced damper and we can design with the optimized each factor according to the investigated results.

        Torque Converter located inside auto-transmission transmits power from engine to drive shaft during driving. The automatic transmission vehicles have many advantages same as convenience, speed of the smoothness and low-speed impact. In spite of many advantages compared with manual transmission, power transferred by fluid has inevitable drawbacks. Lock-up Clutch improving this loss, when driving a vehicle at the high speed, has a similar structure and characteristic of clutch of manual transmission as a device for a direct connection. When combined the Lock-up clutch, maximum efficiency is obtained.. But NVH is raised due to vibration and impact caused by the Lock-up device. Therefore various damper system is under development to solve these problems. Also, In addition to the goal of reducing NVH problems, It is greatly important to reduce the effect of oscillation, friction, and impact in damper’s service life. In this study, we propose the design approach to improve durability through the case study of stress distribution according to shapes of cut using Ansys Workbench in one of the commercial structure analysis programs.
