The concentrations of nutrients in precipitation increased slightly from May to June and did not change afterwards. Regarding irrigation water, the nutrient concentrations were high in the early stage of rice growth but decreased during the period of mid-June to mid-July. The concentration of Tot-N in runoff water increased significantly during the period of fertilizer application (basal, tillering, and panicle fertilization) and then decreased. The concentrations of Tot-N in runoff water ranged from 0.4 to 39.8mg/L (average of 5.9mg/L). The concentration of Tot-P in runoff water ranged from 0.0004 to 0.2084mg/L (average of 0.055mg/L). The Tot-P concentrations were high only at the early stage of rice growth after fertilizer application and did not change afterwards.

The fractions of nitrogen were investigated in the soils of reclaimed and natural tidelands of southwest coastal area of Korea. The content of total-N varied to ranged form 619 to 5,534 mg/kg dry weight with a mean value of 1,857 mg/kg. The order of different fractions of nitrogen was as follows: Acid non-extractable-N > uncounted-N > acid extractable-N > ammonia-N > nitrate-N. The content of ammonia-N, acid extractable-N, and acid non-extractable-N showed highly negative correlations with pH. The content of acid extractable-N and ammonia-N showed highly positive correlation with clay content.

우리나라 서남해안 간척지 및 간석지 토양중에 분포하는 질소의 화학적 형태별 함량을 조사하기 위하여 서남해안 4개 지역에 걸쳐 대표성이 있다고 판단되는 10개 지구에서 총 102점의 토양시료를 채취하여 토양중 질소의 화학적 형태별 함량을 분석한 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 토양중 총질소의 함량은 619.5-5,533.4 mg/kg의 범위로 평균 1,857.6 mg/kg을 나타내었다. 지역별로는 경기도 옹진과 화옹지역 그리고 전남 고홍지역에서 평균 함량이 2,000 mg/kg을 상회하고 있는 것으로 조사되었다. 충남 석문지역의 경우 1,000 mg/kg 수준으로 가장 낮게 나타났다. 2. 질산태질소의 함량은 19.5-169.0 mg/kg의 범위로 평62.7 mg/kg을, 암모니아태질소의 함량은 105.8-396.9 mg/kg의 범위로 평균 195.2 mg/kg을 나타내었다. 거의 대부분의 조사지역에서 암모니아태질소가 전체 무기태질소의 80% 정도를 차지하였으나 일부 SM, DH, IW 지구에서는 60% 수준을 나타내고 있었다. 간척지 및 간석지 토양중에 분포하는 무기태질소와 유기태질소의 비율을 비교한 결과 유기태질소가 전체 총질소의 80-90% 이상을 차지하고 있었다. The ranking of different fractions of nitrogen sources in reclaimed tideland soil samples was as follows: Acid non-extractable-N > uncounted-N > acid extractable-N > ammonia-N > nitrate-N. The content of ammonia-N, acid extractable-N, and acid non-extractable-N in reclaimed tideland soil showed highly negative correlations with pH. The content of acid extractable-N and ammonia-N in reclaimed tideland soil showed highly positive correlation with clay content.

The present study was carried out for 7-months (from October 1,1997 to April 30,1998) at a rice cultivation area blocked from livestock farming, farmstead and industrial complex to investigate the runoff loading of nitrogen and phosphorus in a plot(5,000m<sup>2</sup>) paddy field areas. The runoff loading of total-N, ammonia-N nitrate-N and total-P were 12.96kg/ha, 5.42kg/ha, 1.52kg/ha and 1.41kg/ha, respectively. When the runoff loading of nutrients was compared by dissolved and adsorbed forms, about 66% of total-N by dissolved form and the rest 34% by adsorbed form were flowed into streams. But 56% of total-P by adsorbed form and the rest 44% by dissolved form were flowed into streams. The phosphorus compounds, which were flowed into streams by runoff sediments and then sedimented, keep exchanging with water at water body in undelivered condition. And it moves gradually into water layer. This process can cause eutrophication continually and repeatedly in water environment. So, a sound program is needed to reduce soil erosion from farmlands.

This study was performed to investigate the stream water quality characteristics according to the seasonal variation at Dowon-chon of the Dongjin river. Water samples were taken during 15 months from May in 2004 to July in 2005. The measured pH, EC of the stream water was ranged 6.49~7.22, 21.0~173.4μS/cm. The concentration of T-N, T-P, COD, SS, DO, BOD were 2.14~8.93mg/L, 0.01~0.39mg/L, 1.22~12.08mg/L, 12.0~2,124.0mg/L, 5.01~11.50mg/L, 0.5~6.0mg/L respectively.

The present study was carried out to investigate the heavy metals concentrations of surfical sediment of in candidates areas of upland-horticultural fields in the Saemangeum reclaimed tideland. The concentrations of heavy metals in surfical sediments were found to be background level except for partially sites. Although the heavy metals concentrations don't meet the warning standard of agricultural land contamination, it was suggested that constant monitoring and interception from external pollutants are need for water-soil-plant system conservation.

In this study, it was investigated that the physico-chemical properties of the sentiment from candidates sites of upland-horticultural fields in the Samangeum reclaimed tideland in order to suggest for basic data for the development of reclaimed agricultural land. The soil texture of Gwanghwal, Gyehwa, ManKyung and Okgu tidal flat appeared to be sandy loam, identically. The average of pH in sediment appeared 7.62, 7.42, 7.42 and 7.82, respectively. The average of EC in the above sites appeared 27.11, 41.0, 26.5 and 27.8 dS/m, respectively. The average of CEC appeared 12.79, 8.82, 13.27 and 10.75 cmol/kg, respectively. For the average of exchangeable sodium percentage (ESP), Gyehwa and Okgu seemed to be higher, 73.62% and 61.05%.

A aggregate size distribution is an important in successful crop production in reclaimed tidelands. The aggregate size distribution for this study were determined of 0.1mm, 0.5mm, 1.0mm, and 2.0mm by wet sieving method. Agricultural activity, period of reclamation showed significant effects on aggregate size distribution in reclaimed tidelands. The percentage of < 2mm aggregates for SMG, GHD, and SM reclaimed tidelands were ranged 8.9, 36.7, and 38.0%, respectively. The percentage of >0.1mm aggregates for SMG, GHD, and SM reclaimed tidelands were ranged 9.0, 26.0, and 48.9%, respectively.

The research was conducted to analyzed the sediments of Dongjin watersheds in reclaimed tideland of Saemangeum under consideration of physico-chemical properties in order to suggest for basic data the reasonable management of the highly salinized reclaimed tideland and to secure the way to desalinize. The distribution of soil texture in sediments was mainly sandy loam and loamy sand, as 58.3% of sandy loam, 38.2% of loamy sand, and 3.5% of sand, respectively. The saturation was in the range of 33.4 ~ 58.5% and the average of DJA, DJB, and DJC was 45.6, 41.1, and 40.5%, respectively. And the overall average was 41.9%. The EC was entirely in the range of 17.2 ~ 39.8 dS/m and the average of DJA, DJB, and DJC was 25.7, 30.2 and 33.1 dS/m, respectively. The pH was in the range of 6.40 ~ 8.57 and the average of DJA, DJB, and DJC was 7.05, 7.15 and 7.37, respectively. The CEC of sediment was in the range of 5.25 ~ 11.95 cmol/kg and the average of DJA, DJB, and DJC was 8.33, 7.64 and 7.45 cmol/kg, respectively. The concentration of OM was in the range of 0.14 ~ 6.55% and the average of DJA, DJB, and DJC was 2.21, 0.92 and 1.17%, respectively.

The chemical fractions of heavy metals were investigated in the soils of reclaimed and natural tidelands of southwest coastal area of Korea. The distribution pattern of each heavy metal in different fractions was in the order: 1) Cu : organic bound > organic complex > residual > exchangeable = water soluble. 2) Cr : residual > organic bound > organic complex > water soluble > exchangeable. 3) Pb : organic bound > residual > organic complex > water soluble > exchangeable. 4) Cd : residual > organic bound > organic complex > water soluble = exchangeable. 5) Zn : organic bound > residual > organic complex > water soluble > exchangeable. The content of residual Zn showed positive correlation with organic matter content but organic bound Zn showed negative correlation with CEC. The content of residual and exchangeable Cd showed highly positive correlation with organic matter content but residual, organic bound, and exchangeable Cd showed negative correlations with CEC. Water soluble Pb showed positive correlation with CEC but organic bound Pb showed negative correlation with CEC.
