The heavy duty diesel engine must have a large output for maintaining excellent mobility. The compacted graphite iron (CGI) is a material currently under study for the engine demanded for high torque, durability and stiffness. In this study, structural analysis of heavy duty engine were carried out with ABAQUS, and the fatigue analysis was executed with FEMFAT using the result of structural analysis. We considered about three loading condition; pre-fit load, assembly load, gas load. Safety factors were investigated by assuming the engine was operated under 2ㆍ10? cycles following the gas loading condition.

A cylindrical shell is used for the aircraft, pressure vessel, air breathing vehicle and submarine. The pressure vessel is divided into axis-symmetric cylinder and a dome structure. In the air breathing vehicle, a ceramic tori-spherical dome port cover is applied more frequently than spherical dome. Because ceramic spherical dome port is hard to make with ceramic than tori-spherical. The tori-spherical dome is consisted by some geometric parameters which can make different behaviors of the structure under shock impact. In this paper, the various heights and radius ratio with thickness were used for the impact fracture analysis and the material properties of MACOR ceramic was conducted with finite element method.

In the air breathing engine, the intake air duct is blocked up from the solid propellant booster by the port cover during its speed reach Mach 0 to around 2.0. The inlet cover is removed and the port cover is broken to pieces by detonator or the impact of inlet air pressure when the air breathing vehicle reach to Mach 2.0. The dome port cover plate must stand the pressure of combustion chamber and easy to break from the RAM pressure. In that situation, ceramic is the most applicable material for dome port plate. In this study, the simulation on the impact fracture of the ceramic circular plate with the variable parameters(boundary conditions, elements, thickness) was conducted by the finite element method.

This paper investigated on the critical fracture pressure of the Al2O3(Aluminum Oxide, Alumina) ceramic circular plate under shock impact. A computational technique for the modeling of ceramic circular plate was presented using an explicit finite element solver. In numerical analysis, the plate models with solid elements were applied. For validation, experimental investigations have been done by the shock tube. The critical fracture pressure was measured and was compared with the numerical results.
