A bellows is a component installed in the automobile exhaust system to reduce or prevent the impact from an engine. Generally, the specification of the bellows are determined in the system design process of the exaust system and the component design is carried out to meet the specifications such as stiffness and natural frequancies. The shape of S-typed bellows is optimized by a proper formulation of the problem. The weight is considered as the cost function. The specified stiffness from the system design is transformed to equality constraints. The formulation has inequality constraint imposed on the fatigue limit. the natural frequancy. The external loading conditions include the axial and lateral loads with a boundary condition fixed at an end of the bellows. The finite element method using the conical frustum element is employed for the analysis tool since the element makes the optimization problem simple. The Recursive Quadratic algorithm in the existing optimization software is selected to solve the problem. The results are discussed and compared with the existing bellows. The optimized shape of the bellows are expected to give quit a good guidelines to the practical designs.<br/>
