This paper describes the target priority selection method in Smart Cruise Control (SCC) system. Because SCC system controls the driver’s vehicle velocity according to relative location of a preceding vehicle on a same lane, the key to achieve intelligent SCC system is properly tracking a target vehicle regardless of road curvature conditions. Due to the limit of estimating the road curvature caused by sensor imperfection, prompt estimation results in abrupt speed change. In this paper, firstly conventional method is analyzed then proposing hysteresis algorithm is described. Simulation as well as real measuring data are analyzed and show improvement in a sensor robust against abrupt maneuvering of an ego car.

Recently, the high angular resolution of automotive radar is the most important specification for the reliable detection of targets in complicated traffic and road situations. In conventional DOA estimation method, the size of automotive radar needs to be increased in order to achieve the high angular resolution. But there is the limitation of angular resolution when the conventional DOA estimation methods are employed because installation possibility is also significant requirement to automotive radar. In this paper, the application of subspace based DOA estimation method to overcome the problem of conventional method and obtain high angular resolution is presented and verified through the experiments of two target lateral separation.
