        A follow up observation was conducted from 1st to 31st of August 1967 on 272 tuberculosis patients discharged from naval hospitals, during the period of 4 years, from January 1, 1963 to December 31, 1966. The results obtained were as follows; 1. The age of respondents ranged from 17 to 46 years; The more than half of the respondents (62.1%) was the age group of 21~30 years, and the older ages as well as younger were fewer in number. 2. the level of education for these patients was relatively high with formal education; 73.0% of the respondents graduated from either high school or middle school, 28% from primary school, and 8.1% from college. 3. Of all the respondents, petty officers were the largest number, which was 42.0%, and smallest for officers (8.1%) 4. Regarding the proportion of manifested organs, pulmonary Tuberculosis revealed the highest rate (91.9%) among all tuberculosis cases. 5. Majority of respondents had their tuberculosis activated during service. As the factor influenced on activation of tuberculosis, they incriminated to overwork in 34.5%, special occupation on ship or ashore in 28.1%, and under-nutrition in 17.3% 6. The average duration of hospitalization per patient was 11 months; the largest group (23.9) stayed in the hospital for 7~9 months, for less than 3 months in 8.1%, and for more than 31 months in 1.4%. 7. After the hospital discharge, 75.4% of total respondents returned to active duty, whereas the rest of them had to be discharged from the naval service because of health condition; the loss of force power due to tuberculosis was considerably high. 8. In the view of disease progression after hospital discharge, 35.0% were completely cured, 59.9% were still not healed completely with various status; such as partially cured in 21.9%, same as before in 30.0%, recurred in 2.9% and aggravated in 5.1% 9. It was found that 50.4% of the patients were receiving no therapy while others were still getting therapy at the time when this survey was being conducted. 10. Regarding the family size, 50.0% of all respondents had more than 7 family members, and the average number of the family members was 6.2 including respondents. 15.6% of all respondents had other tuberculosis patients withing the family. Among the total respondents. 61.5% had responsibility to support their families as a bread-winner. 11. The classification of occupation for respondents discharged from naval service showed: non-employment in 21.6%, farming in 17.1%, civil service in 13.7%, trading in 9.0%, engineering in 8.6%, and laboring in 2.3% 12. As the knowledge of health institutions related to the care of tuberculosis, health center was the most popular one recognized by respondents and tuberculosis assocition ranked the second. Sanitarium and christian hospital were known a little by respondents. 13. It was observed that 94.0% of all respondents replied desired free therapy and examination by public institutions.
