송방송(Song Bang song)(宋芳松) 국립국악원 1996 국악원논문집 Vol.8 No.-
This study aims to lay a foundation for the historical study of the performing arts in the eighteenth century by evaluating the historical significance of Chinyŏn ŭigwe. Compiled in the Kapja year of King Yŏngjo s reign (1744), this document describes the musicians and dancers who performed at certain court ceremonies in that year, including court musicians, female entertainers (kisaeng), dancing boys (mudong), and musicians providing dance accompaniment music. Thus, it is an important document for the history of the performing arts, especially dance and music. Chinyŏn ŭigwe also gives details of the clothing worn by the kisaeng, and thus contributes also to our knowledge of Korean costume history. Finally, in recording various official documents concerning the government office responsible for banquets and ceremonies, the book is also useful for the study of the administrative system of that time. Thus, Chinyŏn ŭigwe is an important historical document comparable with the earlier works Akjang tŭngnok and Akhak kwebŏm in helping to show how court music was maintained during the Chosŏn period.
