Pseudomonas veronii KJ mitigates flood stress-associated damage in Sesamum indicum L.

Physiological characteristics of terrestrial plants are severely affected by waterlogging stress, leading to low photochemical efficiency of leaves and retarded growth and development. Plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria contain the acdS gene, which encodes for the enzyme 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate (ACC) deaminase. ACC deaminase cleaves the substrate ACC to produce aketobutyrate and ammonia and mitigates the adverse effect of prolonged water stress. The aim of this study was to characterize ACC deaminase-producing rhizobacteria and evaluate their effects on sesame (Sesamum indicum L.) under waterlogging stress condition. The rhizobacterium Pseudomonas KJ was characterized on the basis of sequencing of the partial 1501 bp fragment of 16S rDNA amplicon and confirmed as Pseudomonas veronii KJ. ACCsupplemented minimal medium revealed the phenotypic identification of acdS gene. The nucleotide sequence (1001 bp) of ACC deaminase gene of P. veronii KJ was also confirmed. We used P. veronii KJ as a bioinoculant in waterlogging stress and monitored the growth and developmental characteristics of sesame plants, including leaf chlorophyll fluorescence signals, concentration of chlorophyll, root and shoot length, and fresh and dry biomass in stressed versus unstressed plants. Plants treated with P. veronii KJ significantly (P B 0.05) mitigated the waterlogging stress-related damage. Thus, the rhizobacterium Pseudomonas veronii KJ may be considered as a commendable addition to the consortium of beneficial microbes for its ability to reduce waterlogging stress-related damage in sesame plants.

Background: Response to antiviral therapy has been linked to different genotypes and this impacts on clinical management. Data on general responses to standard interferon (IFN) against HCV infection exists but little is known regarding HCV genotype specific responses. Purpose: Therefore, we attempted to determine genotype specific responses of chronic HCV patients, having different HCV genotypes, to standard IFN and ribavirin combination therapy administered for a period of six months in Kybher Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. Materials and Methods: HCV genotype was determined for all serum samples. Each patient received standard IFN combination therapy with ribavirin administered at dose of 3 MIU three times a week and 800-1200 mg/day, respectively, for a period of six months. After completion of this therapy, PCR was performed for all course completed subjects. Results: Out of total 51 selected patients the most abundant genotypes were 3a (49.0%) and 1a (21.6%) followed by 3b (9.8%), 1b (7.84%), 2a (7.84%) and untypable (3.94%). Moast responsive genotypes were 2a followed by 3a, with end of treatment responses of 77.7%, and 72.2%. Responses for 3b, 1b and untypable were 66.7%, 33.3% and 0%, respectively. Conclusions: IFN response is efficient in case of 2a and 3a genotypes while in case of untypable genotypes, further categorization is required to know about genomic sequences and to adopt some new regimes against these genotypes.
Foreign Capital Inflows and Stock Market Development in Pakistan

The study examines how foreign capital inflows affect stock market development in Pakistan for the period from July 2008 to June 2018. Several components of foreign capital inflows were used for empirical analysis, namely, foreign direct investment, foreign portfolio investment, and remittances. Further, market capitalization was used as a proxy for stock market development. The study uses an ARDL model for examining the long-run and short-run relationships between variables. We also analyze the bi-directional causality between the variables through the Granger causality test. Further, the presence of structural breaks was analyzed through the CUSUM and CUSUM Square test. The results suggest that in the long run, remittances have a positive and significant relationship with stock market development. However, foreign direct investment, foreign portfolio investment, and USD-PKR exchange rate do not have a significant impact on stock market development. The results also suggest that in the short run there is a negative relationship between FDI, USD-PKR exchange rate and market capitalization. Contrarily, we found a positive relationship between FPI and market capitalization. The results of Granger causality test suggest that remittances and USD-PKR exchange rate have a causal relationship with stock market development. Finally, we found no evidence of structural breaks in the dataset.

This study aims to analyze the impact of trade openness on unemployment in labor-abundant and capital-abundant countries of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) by taking the data from 1991 to 2018. A new technique quantile-on-quantile (QQ) is applied to show how quantiles of trade openness asymmetrically affect the quantiles of unemployment by providing an appropriate framework to capture the overall dependence structure. 8 out of 10 capital-abundant countries show a positive association between trade openness and unemployment, while 7 out of 10 labor-abundant countries indicate a negative effect of trade openness on unemployment. Hence, the majority of selected labor-abundant and capital-abundant countries are validating Heckscher-Ohlin theory of international trade. The results show that the asymmetric intensity of trade-induced unemployment varies with countries at both bottom and upper quantiles of the distribution of data that require individual attention in postulating the policies related to trade and unemployment in OIC countries.
Highly visible light active Ag@ZnO nanocomposites synthesized by gel-combustion route

Highly visible light active 1% and 3% Ag@ZnO nanocomposites were synthesized via a gel combustion route using citric acid as a fuel. The formation of the nanocomposites with enhanced properties was confirmed using a range of characterization techniques, photocatalysis and photoelectrochemical studies. Compared to the pristine ZnO nanoparticles, the Ag@ZnO nanocomposites exhibited enhanced visible light photocatalytic activity for the degradation of methylene blue and photoelectrochemical response. A mechanism was proposed to account for the photocatalytic activities of the Ag@ZnO nanocomposite that showed the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) of Ag is an effective way of enhancing the visible light photocatalytic activities.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>To seek the new medicinal potential of sulfadiazine drug, the free amino group of sulfadiazine was exploited to obtain acyl/aryl thioureas using simple and straightforward protocol. Acyl/aryl thioureas are well recognized bioactive pharmacophore containing moieties. A new series (<B>4a</B>–<B>4j</B>) of sulfadiazine derived acyl/aryl thioureas was synthesized and characterized through spectroscopic and elemental analysis. The synthesized derivatives <B>4a</B>–<B>4j</B> were subjected to calf intestinal alkaline phosphatase (CIAP) activity. The derivative <B>4a</B>–<B>4j</B> showed better inhibition potential compared to standard monopotassium phosphate (MKP). The compound <B>4c</B> exhibited higher potential in the series with IC<SUB>50</SUB> 0.251 ± 0.012 µM (standard KH<SUB>2</SUB>PO<SUB>4</SUB> 4.317 ± 0.201 µM). Lineweaver-Burk plots revealed that most potent derivative <B>4c</B> inhibition CIAP via mixed type pathway. Pharmacological investigations showed that synthesized compounds <B>4a</B>–<B>4j</B> obey Lipinsk’s rule. ADMET parameters evaluation predicted that these molecule show significant lead like properties with minimum possible toxicity and can serve as templates in drug designing. The synthetic compounds show none mutagenic and irritant behavior.
