A Linear Analog Network Coding for Asynchronous Two-Way Relay Networks

<P>Time asynchronism is a practical issue need to be addressed for a general distributed two-way relay network, where two terminal nodes exchange information through multiple spatial-separated relay nodes. In this letter, we propose an analog network coding (ANC) scheme for a time asynchronous two-way relay network. In the proposed scheme, each relay node linearly transforms the received mixed asynchronous signals in the first time-slot by a Toeplitz matrix, and then broadcasts them back to the terminals in the second time-slot. A sufficient condition is derived for the proposed ANC to achieve full cooperative diversity using only linear receivers at the terminal nodes, such as zero-forcing (ZF), or minimum mean square error (MMSE) receivers, with any delay profiles of the timing errors. The decoding of the proposed ANC scheme is computationally efficient and the symbol rate can approach 1, when the coding block length is sufficiently large compared to the number of relay nodes R and the timing errors.</P>

North Korea’s unchecked missile and nuclear program is one of the most pressing global security concerns. This article evaluates the multilateral engagement efforts that have been pursued by regional stakeholders, specifically assessing the Six-Party Talks vis-a-vis the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF), and explaining why these multilateral efforts have failed to resolve the nuclear crisis. Given the poor performances of these two multilateral platforms, this article seeks to assess the feasibility and policy implications of defusing the longstanding nuclear crisis through multilateral engagement. Despite stalling and a myriad of obstacles, the Six-Party Talks has a better chance than the ARF at curbing the nuclear crisis. At best, the ARF can contribute by playing a complementary role by helping deescalate tensions or cultivating better diplomatic ties.
The Impact of Initial Public Offerings on Rival Firms

본 연구는 IPO이 동종 산업 내에서 경쟁기업에 대한 효과에 대한 기존 선행연구들을 광범위하게 확장하려고 시도하였다. 본 연구의 목적은 다음과 같다. 첫째, IPO 이후에 경쟁기업간에 교차하여 나타날 수 있는 영향에 대해 분석하였다. 둘째, 벤처캐피탈에 투자된 IPO가 벤처캐피탈에 투자되지 않는 IPO보다 산업내 경쟁기업에 더 많은 영향을 주는지에 대해 분석하였다. 본 연구의 주요 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, IPO는 경쟁기업의 가치에 경쟁적인 영향을 줄 수 있는 것으로 나타났다. 벤처캐피탈에 투자된 IPO기업가 경쟁기업에 유의적인 부(-)의 영향을 미칠 수 있다는 결과가 나타난 것에 비해, 벤처캐피탈에 투자되지 않는 IPO기업의 경우는 유의하지 않은 결과가 나타났다. Our paper extends previous studies through a comprehensive examination of the impact of IPOs on the rivals. This study is guided by three primary motives: first, to investigate whether the impact of IPOs on the rivals exist, and second, to examine whether rivals’ reactions in response to venture-backed IPOs are different from that of non venture-backed IPOs. Third, we also attempt to test whether the rivals react differently in response to IPOs according to the difference in specific characteristics. Results in our study show that IPOs have competitive effects on rivals. Our research also shows that venture-backed IPOs have significantly negative impacts on rivals, but rivals have insignificant reactions to non venture-backed IPOs.

Sclerotinia stem rot (SSR) caused by the fungus Sclerotinia sclerotiorum has been an increasing threat to oilseed rape (Brassica napus L.) cultivation. Efficient and environment‐friendly treatments are much needed. Here we focus on microbial control. The Pseudomonas fluorescens P13 that was isolated from oilseed rape cultivation soil, proved to be a useful biocontrol strain for application. Morphology, physiological and biochemical tests and 16S rDNA analysis demonstrated that it was P. fluorescens P13 and that it had a broad antagonistic spectrum, significantly lessening the mycelial growth of S. sclerotiorum by 84.4% and suppressing sclerotial formation by 95‐100%. Scanning electron microscopy studies attested that P13 deformed S. sclerotiorum mycelia when they were cultured together. P13 did not produce chitinase but did produce hydrogen cyanide (HCN) which was likely one of the antagonistic mechanisms. The density of P13 remained at a high level (≥10^6 CFU/ml) during 5 weeks in the rhizosphere soil and roots. P13 reduced SSR severity at least by 59% in field studies and also promoted seedling growth (p<0.05) at the seedling stage. From these data, our work provided evidence that P13 could be a good alternative biological resource for biocontrol of S. sclerotiorum.
Iron Depletion Decreases ROS in Porcine Early Embryos Developing In Vitro

Iron is an important element which takes part in several biological processes. The role of iron in porcine oocyte maturation and early embryo development was still unknown. In the present study, iron was depleted by deferoxamine (DFM), a specific iron chelator, during in vitro maturation (IVM) and in vitro culture (IVC) period respectively. Results showed that, oocytes were matured with 1 μM DFM for 44 h followed by parthenogenetic activation (PA) displayed higher (p<0.05) blastocyst rate compared to without DFM in IVM medium. Another hand, supplemented with 0.5 μM DFM to the IVC medium for 7 days enhanced blastocyst formation both in PA and in vitro fertilization (IVF) groups (p<0.05). Although there was no difference in total cell number in IVF-derived blastocysts between control and iron depleted group, apoptotic index was significantly (p<0.05) decreased following iron depletion. ROS content in MII oocyte and blastocyst was significantly (p<0.05) decreased after iron depletion. For clarify the mechanism of the phenomenon, expressions of apoptotic- and ROS-related genes in the blastocyst were checked. Iron depletion reduced the expression of Caspase 3 and increased Bcl-xL in blastocyst (p<0.05), but there was no significanly differenc in m-RNA expression of Nox4. Mitochondrial membrane potential was increased both in MII oocytes and blastocysts after DFM treatment. In conclusion, iron depletion decreased ROS in oocytes and embryos developing in vitro, further enhanced mitochondrial activity and reduced the apoptosis in blastosyst, resulted in enhancement of the developmental capacity in porcine early embryos.
