Behc¸et 병에서 말초혈액 호중구의 Superoxide anion (O₂^(-)) 생성 능력에 관한 연구

The present study was carried out to investigate the mechanism of inflammtion and tissue injury in Behcet's disease. The generation of O₂(-) was assessed by superoxide dismutase inhibitable cytochromec reduction method. The O₂(-) generation activity was expressed as nanomoles of cytochrome c reduced per 1×10^(6) neutrophils. The O₂(-)generation activity of peripheral blood neutrophils of the patients was compared to that of healthy controls, and was analyzed in the respect of clinical severity, exacerbation and improvement, pathergy reaction, and tetracycline treatment for oral ulcer. The results were summarized as follows : 1. The O₂(-) generation activity of neutrophils in Behcet's disease was markedly increased as compared with that of healthy controls. 2. In the patient group with severe clinical symptoms, exacerbated clinical course and positive pathergy reaction, the O₂(-) generation activity of neutrophils was increased. 3. The O₂(-) generation activity of neutrophils was markedly decreased in the patient group treated with tetracycline for oral ulcer.

Sebaceous trichofolliculoma is a rare appendageal tumor that usually present as a solitary tumor mainly on the nose. Histologically it shows a large, irregularly shaped, centrally located cavity lined by squamous epithelium and radially arranged pilosebaceous follicles connected to the cavity. We describe a case of sebaceous trichofolliculoma in an 86-year-old woman who presented with asymptomatic skin-colored papule on her nose. (Korean J Dermatol 2003;41(12):1662~1663)

Intravascular papillary endothelial hyperplasia(IPEH) is a relatively rare disease which is characterized by the development of endothelial-lined papillary projections. It is now believed to be a reactive process that result from organization of a thrombus. We report a case of intravascular papillary endothelial hyperplasia developed on the plantar surface of right 4th toe. (Korean J Dermatol 2003;41(7) : 982~985)

We present a case of desmoplastic trichoepithelioma in a 21-year-old woman. She had a asymptomatic hard annular plaque with a raised border and depresaed center on the chin. Histopathological findings showed narrow strands of basaloid cell, keratinous cyst and desmoplastic stroma, the features corresponding to the desmoplaslic trichoepithelioma.

Background: Acral Melanoma (AM) is a subtype of melanomas that preferentially occurs on hands and feet. It is of particular interest to understand melanoma pathogenesis, because it has different genetic factors from other melanoma subtypes and treatment. Therefore a thorough study about genomic characteristics of AM is needed to develop new treatment options. We preliminarily investigated the gene expression profiles of melanomas. Objectives: In this study, we tried to compare genomic patterns of melanomas with normal tissues and also compare gene expressions of AM with those of superficial spreading melanomas (SSM). Methods: We obtained fresh frozen tissue samples from AM and SSM, as well as normal skin and carried out cDNA microarray analysis. We also compared the gene expressions of AM, SSM, and normal tissues by RT-PCR. Results: We identified 742 up-regulated and 1518 down-regulated probe sets in melanoma compared to normal skin. Top 20 up-regulated genes in melanoma compared to normal skin include MLANA, PMEL, TYR, C6orf218, TRPM1, PRAME, RGS1. Conclusion: We collected data about differences in gene expression between melanomas and normal tissues, and also between AM and SSM. With this information we look forward to finding out specific genomic traits of AM and developing new biologic targets treating AM.
