      • Emergent masculinities: The gendered struggle for power in southeastern Nigeria, 1850-1920

Mbah, Leonard Ndubueze Michigan State University 2013 해외박사(DDOD)

        RANK : 247343

This dissertation uses oral history, written sources, and emic interpretations of material culture and rituals to explore the impact of changes in gender constructions on the historical processes of socio-political transformation among the Ohafia-Igbo of southeastern Nigeria between 1850 and 1920. Centering Ohafia-Igbo men and women as innovative historical actors, this dissertation examines the gendered impact of Ohafia-Igbo engagements with the Atlantic and domestic slave trade, legitimate commerce, British colonialism, Scottish Christian missionary evangelism, and Western education in the 19th and 20th centuries. It argues that the struggles for social mobility, economic and political power between and among men and women shaped dynamic constructions of gender identities in this West African society, and defined changes in lineage ideologies, and the borrowing and adaptation of new political institutions. It concludes that competitive performances of masculinity and political power by Ohafia men and women underlines the dramatic shift from a pre-colonial period characterized by female bread-winners and more powerful and effective female socio-political institutions, to a colonial period of male socio-political domination in southeastern Nigeria.

      • On Public Policy Perspectives of Student Loans and Debts: A Mixed-Methods Approach

Mbah, Ruth Endam ProQuest Dissertations & Theses Southern Universit 2020 해외박사(DDOD)

        RANK : 247343

Burdensome and unmanageable is what student loan repayment has become to 45 million Americans who owe a total of about $1.56 trillion in student loans. The purpose of this study is (1) to examine the likelihood of passing debt forgiveness legislation, and (2) to assess students’ perceptions of the student loan debt and repayment plan options. Hence, the major research questions: (1) What is the likelihood of passing of legislation for student loan/debt forgiveness? (2) How do Southern University and A & M College (SUBR), Louisiana State University (LSU), Baton Rouge Community College (BRCC) student loan perceptions determine their repayment plan choices? The first research question is a qualitative question based on the Three-Policy Window Stream Theory and the Interest Group Theory, while the second research question is a quantitative question based on the Human Capital Theory. This study employs a mixed-method (exploratory sequential) research design. Qualitative data are extracted from an interview of 24 SUBR employees and analyzed using the Grounded Theory approach. A survey was administered to SUBR, LSU and BRCC students to obtain quantitative data, which we analyzed on STATA using the logit model. Based on our qualitative data analysis results, we propose a new model to evaluate the possibility of passing a student loan forgiveness legislation: the Four-Policy Window Stream Model that merges the Three-Policy Window Stream theory and the Interest Group theory. Findings also suggest that the likelihood of passing legislation for student loan/debt forgiveness is very slim given the current political atmosphere but remains a future possibility. From the quantitative data analysis, on the other hand, results indicate a statistically significant association between students’ perceptions about their student loan debt and their repayment plan choices; thus, we reject the null hypothesis.

      • Promoting Use of Continuous Glucose Monitoring Devices at a Pediatric Clinic through Online Education and Peer Support

Mbah, Glenise ProQuest Dissertations & Theses Salisbury Universi 2022 해외박사(DDOD)

        RANK : 247343

Type One Diabetes Mellitus (T1DM) poses social and health threats to the lives of many individuals. In the past, management of diabetes mellitus has revolved around the use of Self-Monitoring Blood Glucose devices such as fingersticks. Today, advancement in diabetes technology has led to the innovation of Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) devices, which has drastically influenced how diabetes is treated. The leaders of this DNP project hoped to bring awareness of CGM to young people with diabetes and provide resources that would assist them in making informed decisions about how to manage this illness. Because CGM use continues to be lowest among young people (Tanenbaum et al., 2018), an educational program titled the Level-Up Workshop was developed to improve how this population perceives and uses CGM devices. The Level-Up Workshop was a virtual educational workshop designed to provide education on CGM use to youth with T1DM receiving diabetes-related care from a pediatric clinic. Workshop activities were geared towards improving problem-solving, trouble-shooting, and social support. Two workshop sessions were implemented and during each session, participants engaged in a series of activities led by a diabetic educator, a CGM device representative, and young people with T1DM. Recruitment to the workshops was challenging, and a total of 4 young people were eventually enrolled. Both patients and staff participants were positive about the experience. Despite the low number of participants, the format of this project shows promise as a means of educating young people with diabetes.

      • Exploring Strategies to Transition to Big Data Technologies from DW Technologies

Fortem, Mbah Johnas Walden University ProQuest Dissertations & Theses 2020 해외박사(DDOD)

        RANK : 247342

As a result of innovation and technological improvements, organizations are now capable of capturing and storing massive amounts of data from various sources and domains. This increase in the volume of data resulted in traditional tools used for processing, storing, and analyzing large amounts of data becoming increasingly inefficient. Grounded in the extended technology acceptance model, the purpose of this qualitative multiple case study was to explore the strategies data managers use to transition from traditional data warehousing technologies to big data technologies. The participants included data managers from 6 organizations (medium and large size) based in Munich, Germany, who transitioned from data warehousing technologies to big data technologies. Data collection included interviews with 10 data managers and a review of 15 organizational documents. Inductive coding was used to analyze the data. Four major themes identified included identify a business need or use case, identify data sources, executive support, and use a data lake. A key recommendation is that data managers can use these findings to implement best practices when transitioning to big data technologies, thereby improving successful big data transition implementations and adoption. An implication for positive social change from this study is that data managers and organizational leaders might use the research findings to improve products and services offered, leading to better products and or services offerings for consumers.

      • The Effect of Socio Cultural Adjustment on Academic Performance and Career Choice amont International Students. : The Mediating Roles of Hope, Grit and Self-efficacy

NDAM MBAH DENIS Graduate School of Hanseo University. Department o 2020 국내박사

        RANK : 247342

Of recent, Korea has witnessed an increase in the number of international students enrolled in Universities across the country. Thisis partly due to a rise in the number of outbound Koreanstudents, a rise in the number of aging population, and a decrease in number of native Korean students dueto the low birth rate. Hence to make up for that gap, and to improve their educational competitiveness in the international milieu, the government has been encouraged to accept more international students. While this temporarily solves one problem for universities, it creates another: How to assist international students enrolled in South Korean universities make a rationale career choice upon completion of their academic program? This study examined the potentials which help international students enrolled in South Korean universities make a better career choice, by examining the relationship between socio cultural adjustment, hope, grit, self-efficacy, academic performance and career choice. This study surveyed 338 international students in South Korean universities to study the effectsocio cultural adjustment had on academic performance and career choice. Participants completed six instruments including: The cultural adjustment scale, the General Self–Efficacy Scale, the Short Grit Scale, the Hope Scale, the Academic performance Scale, and a Career Decision Scale measuring potential for career choice. The study used descriptive statistics to determine the characteristics of the participants. Correlation analysiswas used to examine the relationship between sociocultural adjustment, hope, grit, self-efficacy, academic performance and career choice. The Bootstrapping model and path analysis was used to determine the mediating effect of the variables. Findings from this study show that hope and self-efficacy had a negative relation with socio cultural adjustment as well as with career choice. On the other hand, grit and academic performance had a positive relationship with sociocultural adjustment and also with career choice. This study also found that hope, self-efficacy and academic performance were mediating variables between socio cultural adjustment and career choice meanwhile grit had no effect in the relationship between sociocultural adjustment and career choice. Results from the findings alsopredicted grit and academic performance had a dual mediating effect in the relationship between sociocultural adjustment and career choice This study highlights the need for interventions focusing on positive and creative thinking as well as non-cognitive skills. Hence, in addition universities should encompass and implement both a cognitive and non-cognitive learning centered approach to fully prepare students for all aspects of university life, career path, and life in general. Finally, the university needs to hire personnel that will communicate with the foreign students and advise the university about their needs. This research adds to the current body of non cognitive skills and career choice literature examining the traits of career development and enhancement amonginternational students thatwould lead to an effective career management.
