Education these days lays emphasis on art education to develop creative side of human beings, and then concepts and meanings in Dance education have been changed with emphasis on appreciation side of dance, as the time changed. Korean Dance Education, however, deals dance education not as an independent subject but as a unit of a part of physical education, thereby making it difficult to achieve essential positive result that art education aimed at the first place.
This study looked into current situation of Dance appreciation, considering the circumstances where the subject Dance appreciation is optional, lacking of classes available. And the analysis of text books identified the position of appreciation activity.
And an appreciation model that indicate dance appreciation education as a good way of art education was provided based on circumstantial study and the analysis of the text book.
The findings from the circumstantial study on current dance appreciation education are as follows:
72.2% of the teachers did not have dance appreciation class or avoided the classes in fact due to lack of effective method and specialty in dance appreciation. According to the textbook analysis, all the dance appreciation classes were optional and led by teachers initiation, not by students' initiation, and the contents of the course were repeated every year, resulting in lack of diversification and relevance.
Therefore, those things that were reorganized for the need for improvement were taken into consideration in drawing new learning model needed in the field of School (Mask dance appreciation for 4th grade, ballet appreciation for 5th grade) and the features of new models are as follow:
1. the mask dance program is for all its members to appreciate mask dance through the process of 「creation, performance, appreciation」 and the meaning can be found from that the fact that it uses systematic approach and object as a way art education. Then it can be integrated into fine art course together with mask dance appreciation by the application of mask decorating.
2. The ballet appreciation program itself was reorganized as art education only with ballet appreciation itself within current physical education course, let alone the whole members of ballet education. And one of its features is the realization of its object of connecting with the next dance by another country to be introduced, by leading the students to the understating of different dances from other courtiers, through the appreciation of Nut cracker. And there is another possibility for integration with Social education from the perspective of researching different cultures of the World.
The suggested dance appreciation model here will be helpful at the field of School education more specifically in detail than the 7th Curriculum. However, various methodological approaches and their evaluation should be encouraged further to the aim of Art education with more systematic way of teaching and learning.
