블로그의 저널리즘 기능 연구 : 블로그 컨텐츠 인용보도 분석을 중심으로 = (The) journalistic function of blog

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Since its birth 2years ago, blog has spreaded marvelously fast and now the number of bloggers recorded more than 10 million in Korea. Blog which started as personal journal has been developed as a personal medium and finally created the word 'Blog Journalism'.So far, how much blog has grown up? In an aspect of journalism, what kind of role it is playing or it will be. Compared with traditional media, blog has totally different message delivery system as well as various message senders and contents. These characteristics made people expect blog as an alternative medium of tradition media.In the beginning of thesis, journalism was defined to discuss what can be called as journalism and what kinds of journalism exists. It might provide the theoretical frame to figure out journalistic roles of Blog. The basic role of media such as delivering messages, raising social issues and arousing public opinions will be fully explained.Also, other types of alternative media which generated with criticism of traditional media were discussed. The quantity of articles about blog from traditional media was surveyed to figure out how much existing media were interested in blog. Monthly and yearly survey about how many blogs were quoted by daily newspapers was followed to understand if blog performed journalistic roles. Articles which quoted blog classified by its contents and formats because it would help to figure out the journalistic role it performed.Research was conducted for 2 years from March 2003 to February 2005. In march 2003, Iraqi bloggers such as Salam Pax and 13-year-old girl, Charlotte Aldebron who wrote anti-war diary were introduced to Korea and blog became to draw people''s attention.The subject of research was limited to general blog, not news specialized one because the latter can be concerned as 'personal internet newspaper'. Traditional media were also restricted to 10 daily newspapers. These newspapers deal with all sections such as national politic, business, science, art and sports, Broadcasting news was excluded because its originality based on video so that it rarely use blog as news source.In conclusion, the numbers of blog and related articles in 10 newspapers have increased enormously. However, blog still stayed as private diary. Traditional media have not quoted blog as much as it was expected and even quoted articles were very limited to feature. On certain issues, bloggers either did not have enough information or were too subjective. It was not enough to be called as journalism yet.On the other hands, the result of survey did not underestimate the journalistic role of blog. Blog has shown limitation that it can overcome someday. Due to its prompt and simple message delivery system, blog can evolve anytime and certainly it has the potentiality.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

엄청난 속도로 퍼져나간 블로그는 불과 2년여만에 가입자 1천만 돌파라는 경이적인 기록을 세웠다. 한 개인의 일기 형식에서 시작된 블로그는 사회적 영향력을 얻어가면서 ‘1인 미디어’로 발전했고, 급기야 ‘블로그저널리즘’이라는 용어를 만들어냈다.그렇다면 블로그는 얼마나 성장했는가, 그리고 저널리즘이라는 측면에서 어떤 역할을 하고 있으며, 또 할 수 있을까. 기존언론과는 수용방식이나 전달주체가 전혀 다르고, 내용의 주제도 광범위하다는데서 대안언론의 역할을 할 것으로 기대되는 것이 사실이다.이에 따라 본 논문은 우선 저널리즘이 무엇인지를 고찰했다. 우리가 저널리즘이라고 부르고 있고, 또 부를 수 있는 것은 어떤 것인지, 그리고 어떤 성격과 역할을 하고 있는지 살펴보는 것은 블로그의 저널리즘 기능을 알아보는 이론적 틀을 제공할 것이기 때문이다. 단순한 정보를 전달하는 역할에서부터 사회적 이슈를 제기하고, 또 여론을 형성하는 기본적인 저널리즘의 역할을 자세히 고찰했다.기존언론이 공론장의 역할을 상실했다는 비판과 함께 다양한 독자들의 욕구를 충족시키기 위해 제기된 대안언론을 고찰하는 한편, 기존언론이 블로그의 확산에 따라 블로그 관련 기사를 얼마나 다뤘는지도 살펴봤다. 사회문화의 변화에 민감한 뉴스의 특성상 급속히 팽창하는 블로그에 대한 기사량을 통해 블로그에 대한 기존언론의 관심을 확인할 수 있다고 보았다.이어 저널리즘의 역할을 수행했는지 알아보기 위해 기존언론이 블로그를 얼마나 인용해 보도했는지 월별로, 언론사별로 조사했다. 인용 보도 기사는 다시 부문별, 형식별로 구분했다. 블로그가 수행한 저널리즘 역할의 유형을 파악하고 예측하는데 도움이 되는 까닭이다.연구기간은 2003년 3월부터로 잡았다. 이라크전쟁으로 ‘살람 팍스’ ‘13세 이라크소녀의 반전일기’ 등 전쟁 이면의 이야기가 공개되면서 국내에 블로그가 널리 알려지게 된 기점으로 최근인 2005년 2월까지 2년간을 분석했다.대상은 뉴스 전문 블로그가 아닌 일반 블로그로 한정했다. 뉴스 전문 블로그는 사실상 1인 인터넷신문이라고 볼 수 있어서다. 기존언론은 10개 종합일간지로 한정했다. 동영상 화면을 바탕으로 뉴스를 제작하는 방송은 제작 특성상 블로그를 인용해 보도하는 예를 찾기 어렵다. 종합일간지를 분석한 것은 다른 전문지의 경우 정치, 경제, 사회, 문화 등 전반적인 분야를 아우르지 못하고 있기 때문이다.블로그가 매월 폭발적인 증가세를 보인만큼 종합일간지들도 관련 기사를 수없이 쏟아냈지만 블로그는 여전히 개인의 일상을 기록하는 자기기록 매체에 머물고 있다. 이는 기존언론이 블로그를 인용, 보도한 내용이 많지 않았을 뿐만 아니라 그 내용도 일부 화제성 기사에 국한됐다는 사실을 통해 확인할 수 있었다. 어떤 사안에 있어, 내용은 빈약했고 지나치게 주관적이었으며, 사안 역시 개인적인 취향에 머무르는 것이 대부분이어서 저널리즘으로 활용할 수준은 아니었던 것이다.그렇다고 이같은 사실이 블로그가 갖고 있는 저널리즘의 역할을 축소시키는 것은 아니다. 단지 지금까지의 블로그가 저널리즘의 역할을 수행하는데 한계를 보였다는 점을 설명할 뿐이다. 블로그는 진화할 수 있고, 그 잠재력을 갖고 있다. 메시지 전달방식이 기존 언론에 비해 월등히 신속하고 간편하지 않은가.
