문화적 맥락을 수용한 복합문화공간의 계획에 관한 연구

정보화 시대에 들어서면서 현대 사회는 과거와 달리 매우 복합적인 양상을 보여주고 있다. 문화의 경우에 있어서도 탈장르화 현상이 급속하게 이루어져 다양한 분야들 간의 상호 적극적인 연계에 따라 복합적인 ‘문화공동체’를 이루어내고 있다. 이와 같은 현대적 문화현상의 대표적인 예가 ‘인디문화’이다.
인디문화는 그 역동적인 성격으로 인해 상당한 파급효과를 갖고 있으나 문화를 수용하는 장으로서의 건축적 장치는 거의 전무한 형편이다. 따라서 본 연구는 인디문화에 대한 사회학적 탐구를 기초로 문화적 맥락을 파악하고 이에 적합한 건축적 차원에서의 수용장치라는 대안을 제시하였다.
이를 위해 본 연구는 다음과 같은 과정으로 수행되었다.
첫째, 인디문화에 대한 일반적 고찰을 하고 국내 수용현황을 알아보았다.
둘째, 복합문화공간의 구성방식을 살펴보았다.
셋째, 서울시 서교동 일대의 실제대지를 선정하여 대지주변의 맥락을 다각도로 분석하였다.
넷째, 복합문화공간의 건축계획을 위한 디자인 개념과 프로그램을 설정하고 이를 토대로 계획안을 제안하였다.
위의 과정을 통해 도출한 결과를 요약해보면 다음과 같다.
첫째, 인디문화는 대중문화의 비주류에 속하면서 기존 문화산업구조로부터 자율성을 획득하는 실천적 문화현상이다. 인디문화는 기존 사회질서에 대한 대안적 가능성과 문화적 실천을 통해 기존 사회구조의 모순으로부터 새로운 사회적 망을 설계하는 것으로서 많은 장애요인들에 의해 한계를 가지고 있다. 이 점에서 인디문화 전용의 문화기능을 적절히 수행할 수 있는 장의 마련과 순기능을 수용하고 발전시킬 수 있는 복합문화공간의 필요를 확인하였다.
둘째, 복합문화공간의 제안 대상지역을 국내에서 가장 활발하게 인디문화가 형성되어있는 서교동 일대로 정하였다. 그리고 이 지역이 갖는 순기능을 활성화 시킬 수 있는 건축적 장치가 되도록 기존 문화공간과 다른 프로그램을 설정하였다. 정보센터, 전시공간, 공연공간, 관람공간의 인디문화의 주요 기능을 수용하는 계획과 일반 대중과 문화가 교류하는 공간으로서의 야외공연장과 야외극장 등의 계획을 통해 인디 복합문화공간이 될 수 있는 계획안을 제안하였다.
셋째, 계획 대상 대지의 문화적 맥락과 도시의 문화적 맥락을 프로그램에 적절히 수용하기 위하여 ‘urban void'를 주요 디자인 개념으로 삼았다. ‘urban void'는 일상생활 속에서 너무 익숙하여 쉽게 인지해내지 못했던 골목길, 주차장, 건물과 건물의 사이공간 등 작으면서도 인간적인 스케일을 가진 비워진 공간을 말한다. 이들과 건축적 장치와의 상호관계를 설정하는데 디자인의 초점을 맞추었다.
넷째, 디자인 요소인 대지, 골목길, 오픈스페이스, 사이공간 등을 반영한 디자인 개념의 처리 방법 (레이어에 의한 구분,물리적 맥락의 적용,대지와의 관계설정, 건물과의 연결)을 통해 인디문화를 수용하는 통합적 건축적 장치를 제안하였다. 인디문화의 주요 기능은 각각의 프로그램과 형태도출을 통해 독립적으로 이루어지고, 각 부분의 성격에 맞는 특징적 공간인 테라스, 야외공연장, 야외극장 등이 주변과의 관계를 통해 문화적 맥락을 수용하게 된다.
이와 같은 결과의 도출을 통해 본 연구는 새로운 문화의 수용방법에 대한 하나의 대안을 제시하였으나, 현실적으로 상당한 한계를 갖고 있다.
따라서 다양성과 복합성으로 대표되는 인디문화의 속성을 보다 깊이 성찰하여, 기존의 문화공간과 차별성 있는 건축적 장치로 현살화 시키기 위해서는 후속 연구가 뒤따라야 할 것으로 판단된다.

As an information oriented society, modern society has taken on a composite aspect in many fields. In the case of culture, positive interactions between diverse genres led to form ‘Mixed Cultural Community'. One of them is called ‘Indie Culture.'
Indie Culture is a dynamic movement in its nature and has been affected to other fields widely, but architectural settings as a place which accomodate this new culture are wholly lacking.
Therefore this research has been analysed the cultural context of Indie Culture based on the social studies associated with it, and alternative proposals for the multi-cultural facility as an architectural setting has been presented.
The procedures to achieve the suggested goal are as follows;
1. I have made a general survey of researches on Indie Culture and looked into the current domestic status of its reception in our society.
2. The spatial organization of the general multi-cultural facility has been examined.
3. After selecting a real site of Seogyo-dong district in Seoul, physical contexts around the site has been analysed at various points of view.
4. Finally, design concepts and space programs for the multi-cultural facilty have been created and the proposal based on them also has been presented.
The results derived from the above mentioned procedures are as follows;
1. Indie Culture belongs to one of the minorities in the pop culture, but it identifies itself as a practical cultural phenomenon, which is independent from the conventional fabric of cultural industry. Though Indie Culture attempts to design a new social network free from the paradoxes of the existing social structure by seeking alternative potentials to the existing social order through performance of new cultural norms, it has limitations due to many impeding elements. Therefore, I could confirm that a cultural complex that can adequately help performing the cultural functions dedicated to Indie Culture is required.
2. I decided to locate the multi-cultural complex in Seogyo-dong area where Indie Culture is best established in Korea. Also, I designed the space programs different from the program of existing cultural complex so that the proposed architectural setting may further develop the desirable functions of Seogyo-dong area. The proposed multi-cultural complex includes those spaces that accommodate such main functions of Indie Culture as an exhibition hall, concert hall, theater, design and music studios. And also includes those spaces where the general public may meet with Indie Culture easily such as an information center, outdoor performance hall and outdoor theatrical arena.
3. I adopted ‘urban void' as my main design concept to accommodate the cultural context of the target site and the city. The ‘urban void' means empty spaces with small scale or human scale in the city, including those that we do not easily perceive in our everyday life. Alleys, parking lots, and spaces between buildings belongs to them. My proposal is focused on establishing the interrelation between the architectural settings and these urban voids.
